PORTLAND, Ore. -- Former Lawrence North High School star Greg Oden isn't putting a timetable on a return from his latest season-ending surgery.
The Portland Trail Blazers center's goal is just to return to the court at some point.
Oden, making his first comments since having micro-fracture surgery on his left knee in November, is off crutches and using a walking cane to help support his fragile 7-2 frame.
"I'll be back," Oden said. "All I can do is control myself and what I'm doing. So right now I'm just rehabbing as hard as I can to get myself back out there and get healthy."
Oden, the No. 1 overall pick in 2007 NBA draft, was expected to anchor the middle for the Trail Blazers.
Instead, he has watched more than played during his four seasons.
Oden has had three season-ending surgeries since joining the Trail Blazers. He has played a total of 82 games, the equivalent of one NBA season, in his career.
"It's hard, it's tough," Oden said. "I can't put it no other way. But I have good people around me, and I know that once I get over this, I'm going to be back out there. And that's what I look forward to."
Oden is doing about 40 minutes of cardio work a day and he's in the pool twice a week. He said he should be able to work out on an elliptical machine in about two weeks.
"Hopefully, God willing, after all this, no more knee problems," he said. "Hopefully they'll be strong, strong as they can possibly be."
