Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson has reiterated this will be his last season working the sideline.

Coming into this season with a chance for an unprecedented fourth “three-peat” and his second with the Lakers, Jackson at the time called the 2010-11 campaign his “last stand.”

In an interview Thursday with ESPN-Los Angeles, Jackson said, “Most everybody believes I’m not going to fulfill this ‘last stand’ promise and I will come back and coach again but it really is (my last season). I really want to do this for myself.”

However, the 11-time NBA champion acknowledged in September that he’s still uncertain whether he’ll retire after this season, as he repeatedly vowed last summer when he agreed to return with a pay cut.

The table is set for the Spurs to end another Lakers legacy!!!!

    GO SPURS GO!!!

I think it is just an attempt to get this year's Lakers team motivated to win for 'his last hurrah'. The reason no one believes him is that he has said the same thing twice before, and only lasted for a year or so until he comes back.

He retired after the Bulls' run and he came back to coach Kobe and Shaq.

Then he retired after Shaq was gone, wrote a book saying how Kobe was uncoachable, and then came back again.

He has too much ego to retire.

There are two coaches in the NBA that are masters of getting players to buy into a system and play as a team...Pop and Phil...and Pop ain't leaving San Antonio. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see PJ with the Heat next season, especially after they get bounced from the playoffs this year by Boston or Orlando.

Jackson sees the end of the Lakers run after this year. The lakers have one last run this year and that is it, back to rebuilding.

Unless Pat Riley steps down as gm, there is no chance in Phil goes there. Phil HATES Riley and vice versa.

I hope the Spurs send the Fakers and Jackson out the same way they closed out the Forum in 1999.

Honestly I think Poppovich is the more likely of the two. He's actually the better choice of the two for Miami's squad. PJ doesn't have the energy required to chase after their 3 stars, and has an ego big enough to compete with the players (which probably wouldn't sit well with the likes of Lebron).

Spoelstra obviously gets this season, but say next year is shortened by a lockout. If the current reports are correct, that would mean Duncan's retirement, and Pop's as well (though he has backpedaled a bit from his earlier statements about leaving alongside Timmy). I would think having a season, or half a season off would be plenty for Poppovich, and if the Heat had failed to win it all at that point then there will certainly be a coaching change in the works.

The two biggest obstacles in the way of this scenario are 1.) the timing of Pop leaving SA/Spoelstra being let go, and 2.) that Pat Riley is the Heat's GM may prevent Pop from running the entire organization as he practically does with the Spurs (no offense to RC Buford).

But seriously. He'll come back when there's a talented team someone else put together that wants him to coach them.

Nothing to see here. Just Phil giving D Stern the high sign that the fix needs to be in this year of all years.

No. He's done. In the past his vacations have been mental health rests. His body is physically breaking down now. He can't even get out of a regular chair any more. He has that ridiculous "high chair" number on their bench. Double hip replacements will do that to you.
