Orlando guard Gilbert Arenas was served with child support and custody papers as he left the court during halftime of the Magic’s game against Miami.
A process server stopped Arenas as he walked off the court during Thursday night’s loss to the Heat. The court do ents, obtained by The Associated Press, were a California pe ion filed by Laura Mendoza Govan. She identified herself as his ex-girlfriend in the do ents.
The pe ion seeks custody and child support for three children that Govan says Arenas fathered and has since “financially cut off.” She is also seeking support for another unborn child as well monthly support for the other children.
In the pe ion, she is seeking $109,000 in monthly support payments from Arenas and $1.3 million annually.
Govan could not be reached for comment.
A hearing in the case has been set for March 8 in Los Angeles. Orlando plays at Sacramento on March 9. Arenas and the Magic played at Washington on Friday night.
The guard was unavailable for comment, but his attorney, Lisa Fishberg of Washington-based Schertler & Onorato, said in a written statement that, “This is a private matter involving young children. It is inappropriate for Ms. Govan and her attorneys to attempt to turn it into a public spectacle.”
Govan states in the do ents that she and Arenas had about a nine-year relationship that included a September 2008 engagement. The do ents also say they lived together in a pair of homes that Arenas owned in Virginia while playing with the Wizards.
Govan is originally from California and the do ents say she has returned to the West Coast and that she and the children are living in a low-budget hotel.
She claims in her pe ion that during the course of the relationship Arenas kicked her out of the homes several times. She says Arenas cut off contact with her and the children in early December, shortly before he was traded to the Magic and moved to Florida.

Whatever happened between her and him is one thing - but to welch out on the kids? This guy can spend 100k on a grotto, but not pay his child support - assuming of course, those ARE his kids. I hope he did his due diligence and got paternity tests.

There are 3 children and a fetus involved. If Arenas cut them off completely and they are truly his children, he's the . Shame on him. Why shouldn't his children live in the comfort to which Arenas' lifestyle affords.

Of course, I don't really know her motive. She may only be interested in the $ but it could also be that she following her lawyers recommendations. Ask for the max and hope for the most. It seems that he may have left the kids with nothing to live on. If he is supporting them but she is just money grabbing, then I'll join the other voices calling her a .
Arenas welching out on his own off-spring is a ty thing to do.

More like, $100k a year. The money is to support the 3 children, NOT her.
If you believe her lawsuit, she's been dumped and cut off with nothing, leaving her no recourse but to sue. If arenas had not been an ass and failed to support his kids, maybe he would not have been served during a game.
The amount is just a starting point for negotiation. If it ended up there, arenas could easily afford it. But it won't.
I hate how private matters like this get into the press, glad she sued....don't care if she gets a nickel but the kids deserve to be supported, and not just with money.

The compensation is based not on her/kids needs, but what her share of his income would be if they were together.
Arenas sounds like one of the 60% NBA players that are broke 5 years after retiring.

thats ing luxury right there, tbh. not millionaire luxury, but how many people on planet earth, or even america, have children that you spend $3,333 a month PER CHILD? A PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, lots of video games, clothes, food, sports equipment, enrollment in activities like music lessons or something....
