Hope they don't keep him long term. He was playing well in Austin, and could have been a solid big in the future for the Spurs.

Meh. We 'stole' him from someone else by signing him for training camp then cutting him, and I still don't know why. When you look at some of the absolute scrub ass big men who stay in the league, he must not be much if he only gets a whiff now.
Good luck to him. Hopefully he'll make his way back in the Spurs radar.
This. It was only a matter of time before someone picked him up...
Has a d-league big ever stuck in the NBA? Obviously not counting the 1st round draft picks who get sent down for a while. I know the d-league has managed to produce a couple of guys who managed to stay in the NBA for a while, but I think they're pretty much all perimeter guys. Not saying there hasn't been a d-league big who's done it, but I sure can't think of one.
Thanks, and well done.![]()
There is also Chuck Hayes.
Spurs just didn't have a roster spot for Cousin. All Spurs' bigmen (Duncan, Blair, Splitter, Bonner and Dice) will be back next year and there is still Ryan Richards waiting in the pipeline.
And Mikki Moore and Lou Amundson. Looks like Tolliver is going to stick.
Why would McDyess coming back be bad?
I was about to say the same thing. Though limited, he's doing a damn good job. He should have played more in the first half of the Lakers game, imo.
Hes deserves it, good luck to him and I hope he sticks. We won't have room for him this year or the next,
The same reason Finley coming back became bad at some point.
Marcus Cousin Won't Receive 2nd 10-Day Contract From Jazz

Utah Jazz general manager Kevin O’Connor announced today that the team has elected not to re-sign center Marcus Cousin to a second 10-day contract. Following the transaction, the Jazz roster now stands at 14 players.
Cousin was originally signed to a 10-day contract on March 9 and appeared in four games for the Jazz (all as a reserve), averaging 1.0 point and 0.8 rebounds in 4.5 minutes per game. He registered four points, two rebounds and a block in 13 minutes of action at Minnesota on March 11.

That's not a good sign for Marcus' prospects, since they shut down Okur for the year and STILL let him roll off.
with a perennial 15 win team
They probably figured out he only knows how to play with one hand.
While Cousin has likely no future with Spurs, it looks more and more likely that Spurs will secure the best record in the league a handful of games before the end of the regular season. Spurs will need some extra bodies to play these games and Cousin could be a good choice.
I like the guy. FWIW, he looked pretty good at the Toros games I saw in person against Frisco. He would be a nice deep bench big for the POs, if SAS want to add a big body.
So at the end of the year they should cut mcdyess because they have a mediocre center in Austin?
Makes sense.
I agree that he likely has no future with the Spurs. But that being said, if they do sign a fifteenth player (according to McDonald, don't be surprised if they do), I suspect he'll be the guy.
