I just heard on WOAI tv how they are amazed how facebook and other social media is the best way to get info on events like in japan.
I and others have been telling woai and other radio/tv stations they need to embrace the www and let they're sites be a larger part of they're stations. All i got was negativity and was banned from many forums.
Now they are amazed how facebook can connect those in japan with others from san antonio and around the world. They make it seem like it's some new cool thing.

Internet may be the best way for people not in it but if you're actually IN the disaster, radio is still the best. Every home should have a battery powered shortwave in case of emergencies.
Its called payback. For years Andrew Ashwood Bob Cowen and other program directors and tv producers would tell me the www was just a fad and that it will never be more than just free porn and a bunch of losers talking to themselves.
I told them they need to make the www part of their radio and tv shows and that someday no one will turn on the radio or TV to get the latest news or to see what is happening now. Who wants to wait until the 5 o'clock news to know not to drink the water from the sink?
I also told Chris Duel back in 1997 his show "whats got your goat" was very popular and we should together create a website so people can vent,say jokes or play a guitar, etc... so others can see 24/7 and they can comment on them to see if they are good or they suck.
I told him people like to be seen and heard and the www needs a site than can help them express themselves. He said "great Idea! you rock!"
Not to many years later Youtube was created.
So if I am upset that slow thinking people that ridiculed me in the past are now seeing the light then i want others to feel my pain also.

cell phone services can be flooded or the towers could be knocked out. I'm not sayin dump the web/your cell phone, I'm just saying if a catastrophe happens and you're in it, radio is the way to get info.

I remember using the "Angry 106" we could hear drug traffickers from Columbia talking about shipments. A la ohcho A las ocho I think it meat 8 o'clock
on a side note we used a Pr7 to code transmissions. But all it takes is defective solderer with a copy of the code book for the enemy to know how to listen in.

Truth.The net and phone service can be shut down or blocked(middle east anyone?); you can't shut off radio waves unless you're the sun. I got a portable shortwave that I mess around with from time to time, I mostly just hear number stations or the occasional conversation between a couple of old timers.
