I'm watching some highlights on SportsCenter and there is Kenny Lofton playing CF for the Phillies scooping up a base hit up the middle and firing a strike to cut a runner down at home plate to save the game.
Kenny Lofton was one of many fantastic athletes who played at the University of Arizona in the late 80s. Kenny was a multi-sport athlete who was the starting Point Guard for the Wildcats playing for Lute Olsen alongside former SA Spurs Sean Elliott, Steve Kerr, and Jud Buechler, in addition to Tom Tolbert and Anthony Cook. All of these players chose basketball as their primary sport and made it to the NBA level.
Kenny chose baseball and 15 years later, has out-lasted them all. He is a career .298 hitter and is currently batting .367 as part of the outfield rotation in Philly...Kenny's 9th team. It's interesting the toll basketball took on Kenny's teammates' bodies, yet Kenny is still out there playing at a high level, long after his buddies have retired.
