...will the Spurs and Bulls both rest their big guns?

If the Spurs shelve Duncan, McDyess, and Ginobili until the start of the playoffs, will the Bulls still shoot for the best overall record? Or if the Bulls blink first and sit Rose, Boozer, etc., will the Spurs try harder to win a game or two to clinch HCA in the Finals (should the matchup occur, of course)? This could be an interesting game of chicken, as it were.

I can see the Spurs putting a good effort into winning tonight's game, because they've had 2 days off before and get 2 days off after. The old guys should be able to handle 15-20 minutes each.

Bulls and Spurs both know that the other one is 35-5 @home.

I'm sure both teams prefer strongly to start the Finals @home.

i think the Spurs win out without even trying... but that's just me.

i don't think the Lakers will put up much of a fight.

I think Pop said he wasn't going to shut down players until the playoffs. That would be like 10 days from the Sacto win to round 1 game 1. That's too long. I can see him sitting certain players for certain games, maybe 1 of the big 3 for each of the last three games, and rest Dice with either Manu or Tony.

Fewer minutes, but no shelving. Players lose conditioning very quickly.

In related news, the Rockets and Suns will now be in the playoffs; the Spurs and Grizzlies have evidently been disbanded: http://knickerblogger.net/statpage/2011/index.htm

Bulls are younger, they're not shutting anyone down.

The Bulls are already limiting minutes for starters. The bench got extended minutes last night. I expect to see the same for the rest of the season.

Yeah, it had nothing to do with 2 blowouts in a row.

Do you think it was a blowout in the 2nd qtr? The starters played like 2-3 minutes that whole qtr. Like I said, the bench is getting extended minutes.

If the Spurs beat the Lakers, they'll beat Chicago, no problem.

the odds of Spurs facing Chicago in the finals isn't that big (definitely not worth risking an injury while fighting for first overall). Most important is getting to the finals in the first place and we need our guys to be healthy, yet still in game-shape.
