Thrashers deal hours away: Winnipeg mayor
By Tim Campbell, Winnipeg Free Press May 25, 2011
The National Hockey League's return to Winnipeg should be finalized within the next two days, Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz said Tuesday afternoon.
True North Sports & Entertainment remains in discussions with the owners of the Atlanta Thrashers about acquiring the team and moving it to the MTS Centre in Winnipeg.
Katz said he expects to see a resolution today or Thursday.
"I fully expect we'll have an answer within the next 48 hours," said Katz, who is not involved in the negotiations.
Katz also claimed that the name of the team will not be the Jets, but True North says no decision has been made.
True North communications director Scott Brown confirmed that the namegame debate is just that, a game.
"He's speculating," Brown told the Winnipeg Free Press, referring to the mayor's comments on the Jets moniker.

Canada can have all its teams back, IMO.
Go Whalers!
The league should just be equal teams from Canada and America, and split them into different divisions.![]()
Lol Thrashers fan
You think I'm a Thrashers fan?

Atlanta as a sports town, blows. Winnipeg will embrace their Jets so long as the CAD continues to keep pace with the USD.
Thrashers vs Bruins was actually the last NHL hockey game I have been able to go to.
Yep
But at least there is a salary cap now, as opposed to 96
Good game?
Anyway, Winniped will be playing in the SE division during 2011-2012
They will log a load of miles
After that, they will make a division realignment and Winnipeg will be back to the WC
Which means the Red Wings could play in the EC - oh please make this happen![]()
It was ok, nothing too memorable. I don't think the Bruins won, maybe that's why.![]()
