Given that they already have 2 small forwards under contract (Marion & Brewer) and a third if they want to Resign Stojakovic for the minimum and given Barea will get a decent upgrade it will be hard to see the Mavs keeping him financially.

The Mavs front office has already said that they hope to resign Barea, Butler, and Chandler if possible.

Peja, Stevenson, and Cardinal seem to be assed out, but it's hard to make any speculations without knowing what the new CBA will look like.

Considering they were outright steamrolling through the league with him, I'd hope they give him a decent 3-4 year contract, and he accepts it.

Peja is as good as gone, Cardinal too, Brewer isn't near the level of player Caron is, while he is a nice looking young prospect, they won't play him 20 minutes a game next year.

    Likelihood of these players staying

    Tyson: 95%
    Caron: 90%
Barea: 40 % (someone will probably overpay for him)
    Stevenson: 25 %
    Cardinal and Peja: none

Paying $10m+ (which is probably what they will have to pay to keep him) is a lot for a backup 3. Stevenson can cover that role as well and probably a lot cheaper.

He isn't going to get paid 10 plus million, probably closer to Kidd deal with 1 more year (4 years 32 million) and remember Caron was starting over Marion till the injury

Didn't they tinker with Caron playing some 2-guard? Would have to see how his quickness is since rehabbing, but when he was healthy, Caron had the athleticism to guard most of the 2-guards in the league. Don't know if that's the case anymore. I figure he would stay, but one place that he might consider if doesn't stay in Dallas and is willing to have a reduced role might be Boston.

^They did, last season, but apparently felt that he didn't have enough quickness to guard the 2-s, and most importantly Kidd did not have nearly enough quickness to stay with the quickest PGs. That's why even with Caron playing really well, it was always a toss up between him and Trix on who would play SF at the end, as Kidd and Terry were finishing the game as the backcourt.

Butler should backup Marion or vice versa.
