There ain't to loot. Unless you want a house that is now about 53 million toothpicks, or a car under ten feet of water.
It's not dumb. Well maybe it is, but CNN brought up the question yesterday too. With this as a reference point... http://caffertyfile.blogs.cnn.com/20...ting-in-japan/

Because not even they want that says 'made in Japan'
Thats what happens when you're in a society which embraces a more socialistic point of view and not a dog eat dog point of view.
maybe because their harsh penalties for illegal activities is already tipping the scales of justice.

There are no valuables left in destroyed buildings? Jewelry store's jewelry is deemed worthless unless the building is in tact?
I think it has more to do with the fact that they're all apart of the same culture, tbh.

More of what I think the reason is. Notice how there's no fights getting food, gas, what-not. I think it's also respecting one another despite beliefs. Not having the well-I-don't-have-one-so-I'm-definitely-gonna-take-mine at ude. Maybe honor, too. Definitely not what you replied to.
The things you just highlighted are pretty much aspects of a socialistic - or a culture that values the group over the individual - culture. But yeah, definitely not what he replied to.

This doesn't necessarily mean thats true. We're all a part of the same culture in America as well yet we still see looting here. But in America, the individual is more important than the group in so many aspects and we preach survival of the fittest etc.
I guess my point is that while there are subsets of American culture I think thats true in Japan too so I don't think thats something you can pin as the reasoning for this. There are classes in Japan just like there are here.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, maybe because the country is actually united and whatever little deviant who intends to loot considers the unity of the country over adding chaos.
Some things are not for the taking.

crime rates are extremely low in japan, so it probably stems from the same reason as that.
How many Japanese people were living under the poverty line before the tsunami hit?
And how many in Chile and New Orleans?
There's no such thing as different human races. There are objective and subjective factors which are determined by the historical economic relations that created different social classes.
And why is that?
