Real Madrid To Offer Six-Year Deal To Fernandez

    Jul 03, 2011 1:30 PM EDT
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported on Sunday that Real Madrid will offer a six-year deal to Rudy Fernandez worth $4.35 million annually.
Fernandez is due $2.2 million next season and would become a restricted free agent in 12-13.

Fernandez was traded to the Mavericks on the night of the draft.
Fernandez is expected to honor the remainder of his NBA contract and then return to Spain.

Dallas only really needs anything from him for one year...and if he does well Cuban can beat that offer pretty easily.

dude is on record as wanting to go home to Spain....and here we go again on owners throwing crazy money at players that don't deserve it....please let's save the owners from themselves...since they can't seem to manage money...

I could definitely see him taking the offer. Not only does he want to play over there but if NBA players have to start taking big pay cuts he'll be getting paid much more with that contract, he'll be financially secure for 6 years making good money.

How have the Mavs lost him? Has he accepted the deal? He's only been offered a deal so nothing is done yet.

The funny part is Cubes can't negotiate a better deal to keep him due to the lockout. Besides, Rudy wouldn't get that kind of deal in the NBA so he should the money and go back home.

Mundo Deportivo is very biased toward Barcelona. Usually everything they write about Real Madrid is completely fabricated.

Uh, there's a lockout on. Anyone who can go to Europe and cash will do so. Also, the reference to "honoring the remainder of his contract" is false. After year 3, you become a restricted FA, which applies only the the NBA, but you are free to leave the country and sign with FIBA. He's probably packing now.

Especially since he just found out Dirk took performance enhancing drugs.

rudy is a short-term plan obviously he ain't being a franchise player to build around imho. mavs traded their pick for one year's service of rudy and it was hardly a bad move, with the possibility of losing both JJB and stevenson this summer. mavs have won it and they need to continue the pursuit, they are on win-now mode now so i don't care how it works in a 5yr or 10yr plan

Rudy can't. He's under contract with the Mavs this season and teams like Madrid recognize those contracts.

    It's after year four.

If the NBA reaches a point where it can't play this season, then Rudy will probably be free to sign elsewhere.

You are correct, sir. I was using dated CBA material.
