Federal Government Rules Marijuana Has No Accepted Medical Purpose

he federal government ruled on Friday that marijuana has no accepted medical use and should remain in the same class of drugs as heroin.

The decision comes nearly nine years after marijuana supporters asked the government to reclassify the drug to take into account the growing body of research conducted across the globe that proves it's effective in treating certain diseases, reports The Los Angeles Times.

The paper spoke to advocates who criticized the ruling but are pleased that the government has finally responded, which allows them to appeal to the federal courts.

my sister has lupus and between her sickness, pain meds, etc. she has no appe e and has lost a ton of weight. She decided to start smoking pot again and not only does she have an appe e (and is gaining weight again), but she has found that she doesn't even feel the need to take her pain medication as much. But whatever.

Driving While High A Still-Hazy Issue

A growing number of marijuana users cause accidents on the road

New data from the National Highway Traffic Safety administration says legal and illegal drugs are impairing 16 percent of nighttime drivers nationwide, and half of those are using marijuana, according to the LA Times.

“Marijuana is a significant and important contributing factor in a growing number of fatal accidents,” White House director of National Drug Control Policy Gil Kerlikowske told the Times. “There is no question, not only from the data but from what I have heard in my career as a law enforcement officer.”

In California law enforcement points to relaxed marijuana laws and fast-growing use of medical marijuana. But even as legal use in other states rises — Connecticut became the most recent to decriminalize smaller amounts in June — many have yet to develop coherent enforcement directives about driving while under the influence of pot.

Prescription drugs, and of course chemo, have killed 100s of 1000s, but corps make $Bs, so that's OK.

What % of the drivers also had alcohol in their system while on marijuana.

Reminds me when labelers say made with natural flavors. Made with Natural Flavors is different than Made completely with natural flavors. In this case, they single out marijuana and make it seem it was the only reason for the crash stats.

    Crackdown on medical marijuana ahead?

Drug-policy reformers are worried about a new Obama administration memo instructing federal prosecutors on how to deal with the growing number of medical marijuana dispensaries.

The Justice Department memo, sent to U.S. attorneys around the nation, addresses a central problem with the growing number of states that have legalized medical marijuana: The drug remains illegal under federal law, whether used for medical purposes or not. The new guidance memo reiterates the illegality of medical marijuana and appears to encourage prosecutors to go after some marijuana dispensaries, particularly the large operations.

President Obama suggested during the campaign in 2007-08 that his Justice Department would not prioritize going after medical marijuana.
