SG's always get away with felonies
Glamorous as in.. the most popular.. the position that has the most recognized and favorite players amongst the NBA fans today?
before this PG movement, i say the most glamorous was the SG but my brother says it's the C.. kobe, manu, tmac, and of course.. jordan.. were usually in the limelight the most..
I think right now it's the point guard position. I got into a debate with my brother about it and we both noticed that over the past 4 years, 3 point guards had been selected with the #1 overall pick... greg oden was the exception alongside john wall, derrick rose and the latest #1 being kyrie irving.. i think there's a sudden huge swing in the NBA today when it comes to this because before those guys i just mentioned, the league goes back as far as '96 as having the #1 overall pick being a PG.. his name was allen iverson..
now i know it's not always all about #1 picks.. but a larger than before number of notable young players are point guards.. talkin' about rose, wall, irving, evans, westbrook, rondo, paul, williams.. and those are the top of the class young pg's.. i don't think there's been any other season in the past that had as many PG's active at the same time with the caliber of those names i mentioned..
but enough of my rant.. what position in the NBA stands out the most today in your opinion?
the poll option.. it wont' even let me put up 5 options.. w/e.. i was trying to get a poll in.. but no go
It's the forward/guard combo player. With the decrease in size (quality size) you can now stick a tall shooter to spread the floor at 4.
I think perimeter players play all the glamour positions these days. I think the least popular position these days is center.
Some best ever players just played basketball, not a specific position. They could play any.
What the does that have to do with the topic at hand?
tl;rtto . . .
The center. Throughout the history of the game the franchise center is the most sought after position.
the only players i can think of tbh is lebron and durant.. i guess kobe too but it's rare he plays the 4 on a squad with odom/bynum/gasol anyway..
It means that it doesn't matter what position they play at. It's their style of play that means more.
PF
Kids who should end up being centers don't want to play that position anymore. That's why there are so many 7 foot power forwards these days. Kids that should grow that big want to be guards and shoot three pointers and make no look passes. The evolution of the perimeter oriented PF has taken over the league. Kevin Garnett helped usher that in. And most of the really good teams in the league have elite power forwards. And the best player in the playoffs last year is a PF. You have KG and Duncan winding down, but you still have Dirk and Amare and Pau and Bosh and LaMarcus, Zach Randolph making his mark later in his career, Boozer, younger guys like Blake Griffin and Kevin Love. I think PF has replaced the center position when it comes to teams wanting to have an elite front court player. A PF with a versatile array of skills and talent is still more important than even a great PG or an elite wing scorer. It's the reason people use for why Kobe finally became successful again after they acquired Pau. It's how the Celtics got relevant again. And it's the reason why Dallas just won their first NBA le over the seemingly more glamorous Miami Heat wing scorers.
I think thats all bull fwiw. I just don't think there have been many guys who could naturally dominate at center like there was say in the early to mid 1990s with Ewing, Shaq, Robinson, Hakeem, etc. etc.
It goes in cycles. Ten years from now there will probably be an era like that again. People ten to read too much into their current era.
SG
It's the most flashy and most emulated on the playground
As long as MJ's videos are still around, SG will be THE glamour position in the NBA.
guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrlllllllllll!
agreed..
i say it's because of marketing + mj + allen iverson + evolution of nba rules..
before mj and ai.. the big man used to rule the nba
Hit the showers son. YOU ARE DONE!
