Anyone work at a pool supply place?

I'm about to buy all the stuff...pumps, filters, skimmers, jets, drains, etc. and build one...I don't have any contacts and would just as soon work with someone from here...

Actually I'm building both. The civilized pool just comes first to keep momma and the grandkids happy. Gonna build the pond this fall when it cools down a little and stock it with cool sunfish and perch for playing around with the fly rod.

Just remember. I have seen a lot of people try to build their own pool. It usually turns into a nightmare. Contractors know how to screw over the Ignorant.

I have some good friends, a father and son, who are both electricians with Keith Zars. They are getting set up to strike out on their own in the next month or two; they've helped me out with a couple of pool/electricity issues in the past. Let me know if you need help when you get to that stage and I'll pass on their info.

Sorry, I just hate seeing people waste their money and not do it right.

You may be right, but I'm pretty sure I can pull this off. It's going on a ranch for a place to cool off and drink when it's too hot to work...I'm not trying to impress a bunch of rich s with the tropical jungle/volcanos/waterfalls in my back yard.

That's where the problems start. With guys that are about to start their own company. They know how to tie electric.

But can they?

1.Dig
Yep...I already did that with the skidloader and have guys to bag/shape and do handwork
2.Steel
Yep...got a friend that is a commercial concrete contractor will do steel and concrete
3Plumb (the right way) Keith puts all his plumbing underneath the pool and uses his own ty leaky skimmers.
Only plumbing under the pool will be the line to the drain
4.Gunite (make sure they use the right amount of sand and concrete)
check on using the right strength mix, I buy direct and sign load tickets
5.Tile & Coping.
check. Hiring contractor, using pool tile, and they don't get paid till I like it.
6: Decking (flagstone, kooldeck, pea gravel sucks and hurts your feet.)
I have flagstone already and hiring rock sub, they don't get paid till I like it.
7. Electric (ok they got this one.)
I can/will do
8. Plaster.
Again, hiring pool plasterer, they don't get paid till I like it
I've been doing this for almost 18 years. I'll be more than happy to help with advice.

A filtered pond or just a hole in the ground with water? With planning you could connect the two and have a chemical free natural swimming pool.

Edit - Better yet do a natural swimming pond, fish pond, & a greenhouse aquaponics system all connected. This guy turned his pool into a pond/aquaponics setup...
