The studio that saved Duke Nukem Forever could be planning to save its own Duke game.
The dismal critical response to Duke Nukem Forever (51 score on aggregator Metacritic) isn't deterring Take-Two and Gearbox. The publisher has already labeled the game profitable, and the developer says another game in the franchise is on the way. And according to the rumor mill, that game will be the formerly canceled origin story, Duke Begins.
In the long and storied 13-year development cycle of Duke Nukem Forever, legal do ents from a 2007 lawsuit filed against developer 3D Realms by Take-Two revealed that the publisher paid the studio $2.5 million for the right to make and publish another Duke Nukem game -- a game which turned out to be Duke Begins by Gearbox Software.
Production on Duke Begins was halted in 2009 for undisclosed reasons, but now, according to the October issue of OXM (as reported by CVG) it will be resurrected and serve as the reboot le for the Duke Nukem franchise.
OXM states that Duke Begins will go back into production once Gearbox finishes up on Aliens: Colonial Marines, which is expected to ship in summer 2012.

Hopefully its something worthy of Duke Nukem.
