Lol Chris Nolan wannabes
ime to Rise. It could resonate with Suns fans as what the team needs to do after missing the playoffs, what the league needs to do after a lockout or as a phrase that correlates with the Phoenix bird and the Suns brand name.
If any or all of them strike a chord, the message that the Suns will start sending today in one of the league's first localized ad campaigns, if the not the first one. The Suns started getting back to work at US Airways Center on Thursday and will be back in earnest today but those familiar faces will be everywhere again after being banished from league Web sites, promotions and community affairs during the lockout.
At midnight, the official team site suns.com began to look familiar again with photos and information about the players back in place. Today, the Suns are running "Time to Rise" display advertisements in The Arizona Republic and running "Time to Rise" commercials on the radio with Voice of the Suns Al McCoy's voice. City billboards are coming too with the back image of Steve Nash with arms extended inside the flame wings of the Phoenix bird. Yes, Nash remains the face of the franchise for everyone who doubted he would continue to be this season.
"It's time we all rise - rise from whatever issues were created," said Suns President Brad Casper, the former Dial Corp. boss who replaced Rick Welts in October. "It's a call to get on with it and elevate our game.
"We all had this emotional, visceral reaction to it (the slogan 'Time to Rise'). It's harkening back to Rocky Balboa days. There's something about someone with their hands in the air."
Casper said the Suns staff is aware it has to win some Suns fans and this soft multimedia approach is just the beginning, especially with some leaguewide ventures that will be coming out too.
"We wanted to be out of the gate first and strong to reconnect with fans," said Jay Parry, the Suns' senior vice president for brand and business development. "We think people are excited about it (the NBA's return) and we want to capture that with fans."
