I think he is a very good under-the-radar free agent. First of all, he'll be cheap-- that's important to the Spurs this off season. He has length, he focuses on defense, and he gets a pretty good amount of steals/blocked shots per minute as a sub. I think he could give the Spurs a solid 10-15 mpg as a defensive specialist/energy player.
6'9" version of Bogans. I'd take that for the minimum.
I've been driving this kid's bandwagon since the Spurs took Williams over him in the Draft and I still believe in his ability to defend and his high basketball I.Q. But as much as I like him and have been advocating for him, McGuire being a real asset to this team really depends on the type of talent they acquire -- he's not going to become a solid three-point shooter upon donning the Black and Silver or present enough of an offensive threat to play consistently. The defense is there and he could be a nice "stopper" but stoppers need minutes and his lack of an ability to put the ball in the basket wouldn't allow him to garner them.
Still, he's an intelligent passer who keeps the ball moving, can defend multiple positions (rebounds and blocks shots from the wing well) and he's a tough player. If you can get him on the cheap as a deep reserve that may see spot minutes here or there and could continue to develop his offensive game in the Spurs' system, he could be useful to the team for next year and more useful in years to come -- I just hope the Washington experience hasn't been detrimental to the point of no return.
He DOES NOT shoot the 3 pointer, at all. That makes him pretty much useless to the Spurs. Pass.
As marginal a player who played as much as he did.
With the panning out as it did, I really think this guy should be the Spurs LLE target.
He's quick out on the perimeter and would provide a sound option to defend the upper echelon players in the league.
His poor shooting may also be less detrimental with the additions of Anderson and Richards in the draft.
The depth chart could look like:
pg - Tony Parker/ George Hill/ Garret Temple
sg - Manu Ginobili/ James Anderson/ (De Colo in the future)
sf - Richard Jefferson/ Dominic Mcguire/ Malik Hairston
pf - Tim Duncan/ Dejuan Blair/ (Bonner or Richards)
c - Tiago Splitter/ Antonio Mcdyess/ FA Big (Mahinmi)
This gives us a great deal of versality in the future.
FYI #nbakings did not give D. McGuire a qualifying offer so he will be an unrestricted free agent tonight.

I'm unsure if the Spurs are really going to bring in a low-cost free-agent.
They've already got two players like Hairston and Gee in the fold and I'm just not sure any of these players are appreciably better or that the Spurs wouldn't be better off allowing Hairston and Gee to take a crack at the "centerpiece" role.
Maybe they make a move a little ways into the season if they deem that they're lacking but I wouldn't be surprised if they just sign their own for now -- they ain't taking on anymore salary if they don't believe the player's going to play. They just can't afford to be buying full-coverage insurance.
I think the addition of Anderson could potentially allow an acquisition like McGuire to happen now, they could potentially put enough quality 3-point shooting around him (i.e Hill, Ginobili and/or Anderson), so I would think he's in the picture if they do decide to add a free-agent -- but Wright still seems like the best and most natural fit. His combination of youth, size, defensive ability and a 3-point shot is the closest fit for their system's small forward role.

Jackson, Wallace, Brown, McGuire ... that's some pretty impressive defensive length and athleticism they can put out on the perimeter . . .
Not sure how many years he signed with the Warriors, but if we can sign him next year for a decent contract I'd take him; he has always impressed me, can play multiple positions; just now defended Pau Gasol in the post who turns around to shoot a jumper and McG blocks him. He rebounds really well and gets good amount of blocks/steals.
Granted this depend on if Lorbek signs with the the team and what they decide to do with Diaw.

If people thought that Leonard bogged down the offense then Dominic McGuire will astoud people.
I'm not sure how he fits but for cheap I'd love to have him.
