I was equally shocked & mystified that Buss went for it as well. The savings must be enormous.
I'm mystified. Growing up really young in LA (Carson to be exact), there was a brief time after Magic Johnson's retirement when the Clippers were better than the Lakers, some of Larry Brown's team's with Danny Manning and Ron Harper.
Other than that, until now, the Clippers were never better than the Lakers. Having lived in and frequently visiting SoCal, I don't know where to find the Clipper fans. I remember many a Summer where there were only Laker fans and flags on cars out there. My relatives still there don't really know any.
On a side note, I always wonder why they didn't move into the Arrowhead Pond/Honda Center full time (instead of part time) and create their own iden y. Sure globs of money can be made at Staples in LA itself but its about creating an iden y.

Shut up got.
2 weeks on this board and I still can't figure out one of Thread's posts.
Just curious how did you become a rockets fan?
I moved to Houston Area really young and just in time for the back-to-back le runs. A couple years after the Larry Brown Clipper teams (and I was a Laker hater even back then).
Buss being the owner of the Lakers, having the say about the arena, likely sharing costs with Sterling to save a dime. How hard is that to understand?
Only "Clippers fans" i know out here are laker haters that don't even watch basketball.
Sums up Clipper Nation's profile perfectly.
balmer looks like he has the money, why not build a new stadium...dude has 27b, a stadium only costs like what? under 1b to build....
he wont need taxpayer funds to build that , would just be 100% own by him adding capital to teams net worth...but in reality his team isnt worth the price he paid for...
That's pretty cool so you have been a fan since the clutch city days.
Even if he was worth as much as Buffett and Gates, I don't think he'd pass up a 50% discount on the stadium lease.
And as you mentioned, saves him the under $1bn.
This is one of the best alt names on ST tbh
All Clipper fans here are basically the same tbh... die hard basketball fans, classy as .
Yep, thus it's been a pretty frustrating existence since 1997. Ah, well, they could be the Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz (whom the Rockets denied twice, 3/4 in gut wrenching fashion, en route to les).
It makes sense but usually his posts are incoherent. And even still, despite any money to be made and cost sharing it would have made more sense from a standpoint of creating an iden y to play in Anaheim. Now they are just LA's B team and even offer, more or less, the same game experience because they play in the same arena.
I'm trying to figure how the arena is always full and has been for years. I have yet to meet a Clippers fan my entire life in my numerous trips to the region . As annoying as the Laker fans are, including my brother, they are still very much out there even if they are down (which tends to happen when you make the Finals about every other year on average).
Nothing wrong with bandwagoning despite what most think
On a side note, I commend Bill Crystal, he could have been a Laker nut hugger like all the rest of the celebs but he stuck with them through and through. He's the Clippers' Jack Nicholson (a true fan in his own right).
I would never root for three teams though. Maybe it's cool to hop in a bandwagon once in a while but supporting three teams is arduous in itself.
He would have been a Lakers fan, but he thought it was too expensive to be a season ticket holder. So he decided to become a Clippers fan.![]()
Who is the third team in the equation?
He should have become a UCLA fan then, he'd have had plenty to root for still at a fraction of the price.
Serious question for CN,
would he rather see Clippers win their first or LeBronze win this year? I seriously think he would prefer Lebron winning.
I think the majority of Lakers fans are also Clippers fans, depending on who's doing better at the moment. Lakers fans are notorious bandwagonners, even Jack was at a Clippers game.
I was in LA about two weeks ago and was listening to KDAY. They were like "Lakers aren't in the playoffs, but that's alright LA. It is sunny, it is the weekend, go on ahead and roll those windows down and head out to the beach". Absolutely no mention of the Clippers, who played later that day.. I was surprised my friend if they always disrespect the Clippers like that and he said no one cares about them. But then, how is the arena full?
I can see how there are some who are both but the problem is the Clippers are almost never better than the Lakers and they're usually at opposite ends of the spectrum. And unlike the MLB and NFL, there's no cross-conference dynamic so the Clippers were the B-team/JV team in every sense of the word.
