Talk about easy money.
Over the years tons of sprinters have played on NFL rosters. Few were sprinters "trying" to play football like Ray Norton/Jimmy Hines, but most were two sport stars like a Jacoby Ford.
If we took the 4 fastest guys from an historical perspective to play for these teams.....(got a little creative with those who played on numerous teams)
lane
1.Giants...Richmond Flowers..Butch Woolfolk..Homer Jones..Henry Carr
2.Cowboys...Terrence Newman..Herschel Walker..Alexander Wright..Bob Hayes
3.Niners...Renaldo Nehemiah..James Owens..Deion Sanders...Ray Norton
4.Raiders...Sam Graddy..Alvis Whitted..Jacoby Ford..Ron Brown
5.Bears...Willie Gault..Cecil Turner..Virgil Livers...Curtis Conway
6.Packers...Mike Miller..Travis Williams..James Lofton...Phil Epps
7.Chiefs...Ken Thomas..Joe Delaney..Stone Johnson..Jamaal Charles
8.? who you got?
I think you should post pics of that massive CD collection you have with a timestamp.
As we know Jamaica has been ruling the sprint world for sometime now. So who were the great Jamaican sprinters from an historical perspective?
At the 1952 Olympics the team of Les Laing (Fresno State) George Rhoden (Morgan State) Herb McKenley (Illinois) and Arthur Wint who didn't attend a USA school smashed the then 4x4 world record. McKenley is still the only sprinter to make the finals in the 100/200/400/4x4. That relay was the first dent the Jamaicans would make on the world stage. Actually could have won the 4x4 in 1948 if not for an injury to Wint. Rhoden, McKenley and Wint were once ranked 1-2-3 in the 400 by T&FN.
While these guys ran for other countries they were born in Jamaica.
Ben Johnson...Canada
Linford Christie...GB
Donovan Bailey...Canada
All three winning the Oly 100m. We know about Johnson.
Now add these guys....
Ray Stewart
Erroll Stewart
Donovan Powell
Mike Fray
Don Quarrie
Lennox Miller
Michael Frater
Nesta Carter
Steve Mullings
Dennis Johnson
Yohan Blake
Asafa Powell
Usain Bolt
If we add those born in Jamaica not even the USA compares to what that island has produced in the speed world.
Believe whatever you like, why would it matter to me?
Saw a video (Netflix) focusing on the top 50 Superstars of all time. I knew better than to take it too seriously but it was ridiculous. Killer Kowalski at number 50? Shawn Michaels at number 1?????
I realize some of these guys wrestled past 1970 but were never better than they were in the 60's/50's.
That's what inspired this.
1.Lou Thesz
2.Bruno Sammartino
3."Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers
4.Verne Gagne
5.Killer Kowalski
6.Fred Blassie
7.Antonio Rocca
8. the Brusier
9.Gene Kiniski
10. The Sheik
11.Ray Stevens
12.Edouard Carpentier
13.Johnny Valentine
14.Fritz Von Erich
15.The Destroyer
16.Crusher Lisowski
17.Nick Bockwinkle
18.Pepper Gomez
19.Wilbur Snyder
20.Cowboy Bob Ellis
Lets see if we can reach the 1000th post by the end of the day.
From my archives...
Michael Johnson 19.32 1996
Up until that point in time that was ...THE...sprint. As far as this speed freak goes. I'd never seen anything like it. It overtook Bullet Bob's 64 anchor and Tommie Smith's 66 19.5 straight. I've never seen that race however. When it happened it was considered the greaest track..and..field accomplishment ever. The track world was...stunned. The next stunner was Beamon's outerworldy 29footer. As we know Michael Carters HS Moon shot would come later.
Here we are pushing 2012 and nobody from the USA has come anywhere close to 19.5 much less 19.4 much less 19.3. Those who have ran the closest (19.6's) are not looking like a 19.3 will be in the works. I'm still waiting for that sub 10.10 guy who runs the 400m taking up the 200m. Until he comes along.....the record is as safe as a babe in the womb.
Then there's Roy Martin and his 20.13 HS record. That was ran in...hmmm...86?...so that record is over 20 years old and nobody remotely close to it. Bums me that I've never seen the race. Martin was running sub 45.00 legs while at Roosevelt High School in Dallas.
How long can those records last? Carters incredible throw might never be broken.

Can't talk speed and the NFL and not mention Buddy Young (Illinois/Colts), Bobby Boyd (Loyola/Rams) and Ollie Matson (U of SF/Rams). All played prior to 1960. Young and Boyd were NCAA 100 champs. Matson an Olympic 400m man. Can't ignore Louisville's Lenny Lyles a 9.5 man (Colts) early 60's. Yes Jim Thorpe, Red "Galloping Ghost" Grange and Don Hutson could motor
Then there's guys like Joey Galloway, Chris Johnson, Tony Dorsett, Ted Ginn, Eric erson, Bo Jackson, Randy Moss, Percy Harvin, Don Beebe, Gale Sayers who obviously had/have great speed. Just how fast...hmmmm?
Then there's those who never made it to the NFL (if so short short stay) but had great speed as NCAA players.
John Capel..Fla
Leonard Scott...Tenn..is 9.94 making him the fastest footballler.
Xavier Carter...LSU
