Iirc dude had a player option which he recently exercised. I too have always liked the guy and wish this is who Blair would have become by now.

Not sure how they can unless Bass accepts the BAE. Can't see that happening.
Makes sense as an MLE target...undersizEd, but efficient offensive player with a solid midrange game.
I hope not. He's got some skill but his BBIQ is pretty low. I'd rather have Diaw.

He's a strong tough big not afraid of the moment as seen in Boston's playoff run. Give some much needed toughness in the paint.
If the Spurs offer him the MLE I will be pissed. Decent player, but not what they need for their MLE. He may end up being the best option available (really bad luck if that is the case), but if that is true I'd rather them just do nada and really maximize cap space for 2013.
He'd bring some toughness. Can rebound and clean up around the basket. Defense is better than Blair and Bonner. Also has a solid mid range jumper.
I like that they're interested but I guess it depends on the price and whether it's at the expense of another player.
Only if some combo of Kirilenko/Diaw/Lorbek isn't possible.

At least Bass can finish above the rim and can shoot, especially from the FT line. He'd do well in the second unit to space the floor for Manu.
Spurs could do a lot worse. I'd take him. Rugged/athletic true power forward who probably has the best pick and pop game out of any power forward in free agent market. (Definite upgrade over Blair/Bonner.) I'd take Diaw over him if Diaw recommits himself to the game and gets in great shape.
Worse comes to worse, if things don't pan out, Spurs could use him in a sign and trade next year to maximize their cap space.

Blair scores near the Rim and Bass is a mid range shooter. If that part of his game is working you then see him drive and finish.
Spurs gave Dice MLE money a few years back, and I see a very similar profile...toughness, rebounding and excellent pick-and-pop midrange game. He doesn't bring the size that Lorbek would or the versatility that Diaw would, but he'd be a solid Plan C.

He also did a not too horrible job of guarding LeBron - until his 45 point supernova.
Anyway, it just hit me who this guy reminds me of: Malik Rose.
The only way I'd want Bass is if there is some sort of sign and trade that sends Bonner to Boston.

Bass is the definition of a solid bigman but his ceiling isn't very high. Good not great defender. Good not great offensive player. Best trait may be toughness but his skill level is lacking.
I'd rather have Diaw. I'd rather have AK47. I'd rather gamble on Lorbek. Bass is better than nothing but his upside is so limited he might kill any chance the Spurs have at a championship if he's the MLE bigman signing of the season.
