Got a call saturday to meet at Port A by 630 Sunday morning. I was up and leaving town yesterday by around 4am (later than I had intended). I hauled ass and made it to the muni docks in port a by 645.

We hit our first spot by about 8am and limited on red snapper in about 20 minutes. We decided to go out to Dutra, which was another 35 miles out from us, in about 1400 foot of water.

About a third of the way there we ran into a very nice color change / rip with a ton of weeds on it. We set up the troll and worked our way north up the rip. Within about an hour, we had 2 Wahoo in the boat, 40 and 25 lbs. Shortly after that we had a sail knock down the left rigger, fought for a min and toss the hook. Got em set up again, and another sail, once again, came unbuttoned.

We picked em up and ran the rest of the way to Falcon and tied up. Kids got out and spear fished, landing a couple of horse eye jacks. We cut up the jacks and dropped them down for grouper. Lost something on the way down into the rig, second drop we hooked up and back him off the rig. I pulled up about a 7' Sand Bar Shark. Got hooked up again on the rig and dropped our bait. This time brought up a 40lb Warsaw.

We left the rig and headed back out to our rip. Got our troll set up and started getting knock downs ever 10 minutes or so, but no hook ups. Few times I saw small sails in the spread, leaping the baits, but nothing too serious. Then we got our first big action. A really nice sized blue marlin came up in the teaser and started thrashing it around. We tossed a bait out to him and he ducked down, then snap, the outter rigger popped and he was on. I grabbed it and he went nuts, damn near spooling me. He danced for a while and then he went straight down. It was a misrable, hot, and very long fight. My arms were absolutely screaming...We got him to the boat finally and he was a big boy. My guess is 300 to 350lbs at least.

We rolled em up and head in at that point, successful day. Hit the dock and got cleaned up, I was back on the road to SA by 930, my head finally hit the pillow at 1am. I am now at work, licking my wounds...ready to go back at it.

Yea, it turned out to be an epic day for sure. I almost backed out on it, it looked like the seas were going to be bad. I woke up at 3am to pee, and checked the buoy readings and saw that it wasnt, so I hauled ass....so glad I did.

Definately. I forgot to mention, after the Marlin we were fired up and decided to make one more pass down the rip before we called it a day. We only ran 3 lines this time instead of 6. As we got going, ran past a palet in the water. No sooner than I could say hey, a palet, we had a 20lb dolphin knock down the outter rigger and go nuts. Got him in the boat in short order and pointed the boat to the jetis. The water was so flat on the way in we were able to hold about 34 knts without even feeling it. I fell asleep on the transom bench thing.

Was a uva day for sure.

sweet. I've fished at Port A a couple of times. The first time, I did a combo sailboat/deep sea fishing package. It was fun as . I had never sailed before but the guide had me doing jibs and everything. Also caught a ton of Red Snapper with some dingo worms we picked up from some dude in a camper on the beach. By the end of the day, we were so drunk we couldn't find the way back...almost. The next morning, we were all like, "what the did we just do?". Went to the bathroom and found where we put all the fish.

The second time, I went on one of those double level boats with the automatic reels. They took us out to one of the oil platforms and we got off and fished off the side of the platform. Didn't catch too much but it was cool walking around the well and seeing the measuring equipment for the natural gas.

Awesome. Everyone is running out for snapper season. I hear offshore is spectacular right now.

I typically just bay fish. With the water level up Reds and Trout are hot in the Upper Laguna. Limited out on both in Nueces bay Saturday morning and again yesterday in Packery Channel and the flats south of CC bay.

I couldn't imagine moving back to SA. The fishing here is just too good.

Y'all are getting me excited, I will be going down there on Thursday. I am not in any way an accomplished fisherman, but I do like going out. Hopefully I can catch something this weekend (though I am not going to be able to get on a boat, it will be all surf fishing for me).
