I see we have a thread on "Top 15 Bigman Candidates for the Minimum" with Luis Scola being rated as #1.

I have no objections, just saying isn't it ironic that, 5 years after trading Scolas rights away for Spurs Euro/Greek Awol Mia for the #43rd draft time, we now try to get Scola back.

Since *lack of money* was the lame excuse given in summer 2007 for passing on Scola, lets take a look at how much was spent on Pops SF/PF players of choice taken and paid* instead of Scola.

    Michael Finley
Matty Bonner *continuing to be paid
    Jefferson

    vs
The Scola buyout and rookie contract.

Finley played well his first two seasons for cheap, then he lost a step. But he still shot damn well. Sometimes he wouldn't have a good 3p%, but he seldom ever went 0:6 a-la Bonner. He connected some 3's every single game.

I generally don't have memories of Finley being a playoff choker. I think timvp did the 3pt averages during the playoffs a while back and some of them were a little surprising. Which leads me to believe it is not just the 3pt percentage but the willingness to take the shot and keep the offensive rhythm that helps the team more. Bonner could hit 100% from 3 in the playoffs but if he always passes of shots and breaks the offensive rhythm it hurts the team.

Use TOO expensive not to expensive. Many Americans don't even know the difference.

Even by watching a game on TV you are indirectly giving money to them.

While his overall shooting % is good, outside of 2007 he was basically Bonneresque when kept in context. Including defense (he sucked royally), rebounds, intangibles (see Bob Horry), he was part of what rode the Spurs into the ground.

Besides 2006 where Genius Pop had him guarding and getting worked by Dirk,
    2008 vs Lakers WCFinals:
    0-5 L
    3-9 L
    3-6 W
    0-2 L
then with the series virtually over he did a Bonnerlike 3-6 in the eliminations game 5.

    2009
    4-9
    2-7
    0-2
    2-6
    than another Bonbonlike 4-9.

So, meh shooting and when you factor in D, etc.
    Total loss.

The point I was making is that it's not just whether he makes the shot but if he's even willing to take the shot, something Bonner isn't willing to do. He can't get a good shot of against playoff compe ion and that hurts the team.
