I thought he was a great pickup last season, but unfortunately was limited severely by injury this season. Given the Spurs' cap limitations he might be their key 'addition' when it comes to finding a backup 3.
I only saw this guy play for like 3 seconds this season...but in that 3 seconds I totally saw why people say he is going to be a great defender...
Plus, he runs like Rodman...and I always thought Rodman's run was cool...even if he wasn't.

I've never seen him play. But, the Spurs really need to start looking for a long defensive minded 3 to groom under bowen. I think bowen will lose a step soon.

A minor clarification: the Spurs currently hold a team option on LJ3 for one more season at around $700K.

It doesn't hurt (too much) to keep him and see what timvp's namesake can do.
The Spurs have a team option on him, I think they'll exercise that, making this topic pretty much a non-starter.
That decision has yet to be made, so the topic is rather valid. If they keep Glenn Robinson then LJ3 looks somewhat expendable.
It would be a smart move to bring him back for that kind of money. He's got some defensive skills and with some playing time and direction he could really be great defender. He's already a very good one.
I will say, however, that as of right now he's much more useless in the Spurs' offensive scheme than Bowen. Bruce can hit that open corner three. That's key in the Spurs system. The Third really isn't much of a shooter at all.
If he really wants to make it in the league, he needs to be shooting the ball every day this summer. If he could become somewhat dependable when left open, he might just be a good replacement for Bowen down the road.
With his added height, if The Third could develop a consistent corner 3 he would be a perfect fit. Even if the Spurs wind up bringing back Robinson, I think they pick up The Third's option.
The Third will hopefully be brought back. Giving him a full summer league on the Spurs a full training camp could do wonders for him. If he pans out, he's already a better rebounder and shot blocker than Bruce. If Bruce can teach him to be anything close to the same defender, the Spurs are set for the next decade.
if LJ3 could develop Bruce's shot from the corners, or semi mediocre ball handling skills as well.

The kid would earning peanuts and he allegedly has the defence needed in our system. Injury-marred season unfortunately, but he's had time to watch us in action, learn our game, and has the taste of success. Get a good camp into his game and he should be raring to go.
