There's options that better exemplify both the city and the franchise but had to be disgarded for one reason or another. "Regrettable Decisions" just wouldn't fit well on a jersey, for example.

New Orleans Hornets reportedly want to change nickname to Pelicans
A report by Yahoo! Sports, based on multiple unnamed sources, said owner Tom Benson plans to change the nickname of his NBA franchise from Hornets to Pelicans. Benson has owned the rights to the Pelicans nickname for years.

According to the Yahoo report, the Hornets also considered the nicknames Krewe and Brass. Gayle Benson, Tom's wife, told Fox Sports New Orleans last week that she wants to change the team's colors to navy blue, red and gold, which are the colors on the Louisiana flag.
The Pelicans were a minor league baseball team in New Orleans from 1887 to 1959 and again in 1977. It's also the state bird of Louisiana.
We're checking with the Hornets and the NBA, which must approve any NBA change, to confirm the report. Check back for more details.

Sons I welcome the jokes because if this indeed happens then the organization deserves to be mocked about it. Of all the names nominated Angels, Spirit, and most recently Knights ... who says hey! Let's name em the Pelicans! ??? LOL
