A woman who was caught trying to smuggle 1.38kg of cocaine into Spain inside breast implants told police that drug traffickers forced her to have the operation to conceal the drugs.
The Panamanian woman known only as Yeraldina, 33, was arrested by Spanish police after landing in Barcelona from Bogota, Columbia, on December 12.
She reportedly claimed she was forced by drug traffickers to smuggle the illicit substance inside her breasts to Spain.
Police who decided to search the woman at the airport discovered she had fresh scars and blood-stained gauze over her chest.
She was taken to a nearby hospital to check her claim that she had recently had breast implant surgery and doctors then discovered she had smuggled the cocaine in plastic bags in her implants.
A police source told The Telegraph the arrest most likely saved the woman's life.
"She was in a very bad state when she arrived," the spokesperson said.
"She said she was not in any pain but the wounds looked very bad."
A statement from Spain's Interior Ministry said the woman raised su ion after providing vague answers about her trip to Columbia.
It was the first time police officers have discovered drugs smuggled in the breasts of a woman, the ministry said.

why operate a nasty surgery and conceal it in her breats when could be stashed inside her womb and easily taken out later?
