Is that what you fill your head with everyday?
The American political process is being hijacked by a reckless, whining dangerous gang of psychologically damaged white men who are far-right ideologues.
The fear is of a world in which white (mostly) evangelical Republicans lose power... forever. The country has moved on, but the safe Republican gerrymandered districts have not. These folks are literally living in a fool's paradise whose time has come and gone.
The white Republican hijackers of our Congress talk about smaller federal government and out-of-control federal spending, states’ rights and the Defense of Marriage Act. These are the defenders of 30-round magazines and personal arsenals, Kevlar-piercing cop-killing bullets, access to unlimited numbers of semiautomatic weapons and lethal handguns carried in public -- all in the name of the Second Amendment.
The truth of the matter is that there is a subculture of frightened white Republicans who see their own government as a threat. They've embraced ignorance and a fact-free life that denies evolution, gay-rights, the demographic changes in America, and above all, the fact that their fellow countrymen have rescinded our entire history of racist bigotry and voted for a black man for president. They just can't accept this.

For starters, if the author had bothered to read the NYT article he cribbed the graphics from, his conclusion regarding voting patterns would be likely be restated a bit. There's granularity in that data that's completely ignored.

The alternet article is about 3 times too long; it's the same rant over and over. He even mentioned Bronze Age mythology/thinking twice in the span of about 4 paragraphs. He could have just said "white southern males: greedy, clinging to guns and religion, holding the rest of us back from moving forward."
Who isn't placed in some kind of victim or protected class by the MSM anymore? All women are. All sexuals are. All non-whites. Who's left for the media to bash? But white men can atone for our original sin by voting the same way as our victims. It seems like the left actually thinks that if it wasn't for the straight, white, Christian, right wing males holding everyone else back in the Dark Ages (sorry, Bronze Age) then that progressive paradise of total equality across the board would finally happen. It's delusional obviously, but they are true believers. Tens of millions of people believe that, including millions of white males like this guy. Fairness and equality for all is right over that hill, but those damn (wrong kind of) white males won't give up their evil ways!
This writer just blamed us for the bulk of the country's problems. Gee, I can't imagine why the rest of us white males might be a little paranoid.
