I knew that London would pull it out and I still went with the even money for Paris.

You can't count on the French for anything

SINGAPORE (Olympics) - NBA star Tony Parker of France admitted his anguish following Paris' failure to win the IOC vote that would have made the French capital hosts of the 2012 Olympics.

Going head to head with London after Madrid, Moscow and New York had been eliminated in third round of voting in Singapore, Parker's France came off second best with London.

"We did all we could, we made an excellent presentation this morning and had a very strong bid," said Parker, the point guard for the NBA champions San Antonio Spurs who was among the French ambassadors in Singapore to support the bid.

"I don't know what else we could have done. If we don't have it now, I guess we will never get it.

"The IOC seems to be very pro-Anglo-Saxon. I feel extremely gutted."

I feel kinda sorry for the French...honestly, they were the most deserving based on waiting time...Paris was the original host and they haven't hosted the Olympics since 1923...Well that's not entirely true since France has hosted the Olympics several times...but still...it's been a long time since they were in Paris...but I guess the Brits not having hosted them period in nearly 50 odd years was a big factor.

I am surprised the French didn't get it though...they tried really hard and I think the games would help their economy.

They probably would have gotten the bid if Chiraq hadn't gotten involved at the last minute...

He missed an excellent opportunity to shut up

I echo that comment 100%. And I laugh at it.

Yep. It was just a few days ago that Chirac said "We can't trust people who have such bad food," reportedly added that only Finland has worse food in Europe.

Paris lost the vote 54-50, and Finland had two voters in the IOC.

What the are they going to do in London when the field events are 10 days behind because of rain delays? At least Paris has great weather in the summer.

I've seen London, I've seen France... I'll take France. London is not the most beautiful or inexpensive city in Europe. Paris is nicer and you don't have to worry about cars coming from the wrong direction.

He also said that the only thing that Britain has contributed to the EU farming industry was mad cow disease....

Ole Jaque can run smack with the best of them, but his timing and targets often leave much to be desired...

I heard he said something like London has the worst food in Europe, followed by Finland.
IMO he might as well be 100% responsible for the bid loss.

Well, I guess he didn't know any better than to tell the truth. The worst food in Europe has to be in Scotland, though. After a few weeks I was wondering where the actual meat went & why everyone was eating blood pudding and organ meats. The only exception is the English breakfast, instead of the Continental breakfast. After a few weeks a baguette with jelly just ain't gonna cut it against eggs and ham.

I'm not trying to knock on your boy, but this is a pretty crappy approach to losing. "If we don't get it now, we'll never get it", and then that last comment. Not very cool. I always thought Parker was above this. There's a difference between being a "Good Loser" and "Sour Grapes". Bad comment in my eyes.

Yea, I know, I didn't like his quotes either. Especially the Anglo-Saxon quote. That can start some controversy. Stick to basketball Tony!

That's a good point. When in Britian, eat...Indian takeout. The curry somewhat satifies your chile pepper cravings after withdrawal from anything remotely y.

Tony did kind of kick his own ass...he seems to have a liking for "anglo-saxon" money as well...

Tony's just trying to be a good Frenchman(via America and Holland )...it's Chiraq that's the idiot.

What is that, the Royal Haggis?

Haggis is great when drinking, FYI. The greasiness lines your stomach and keeps alcohol from being absorbed so quickly. Beer in Scotland rocks, though.
