I think if there's anything that pointed towards the meth dealer/tweaker profile it's that he lives by himself in the middle of the desert and is always wearing a bathrobe. On top of that he knows how to talk his way out of a traffic stop without the authorities checking the vehicle and which hole bar in a hole city to find a smuggler. None of this can be an accident.
