Those damn teenagers!
Was coming back to San Antonio yesterday from a wedding in Ft.Worth and took the scenic route coming home...cut across to 281 from Alvarado and headed south. I was a few miles south of Lampasas on a 4 lane stretch without a median...traffic was pretty heavy but flowing smooth...I was southbound running 75 and my wife was asleep in the passenger seat. I stilll don't know exactly what happened but suddenly there was a northbound out of control rocking jeep full of teenagers right in front of me..I assume he was texting or not paying attention and ran up on the car in front of him too fast and instead of hitting him jumped out in my lane...man...it happened that fast. I popped the brakes and bailed for the shoulder and we just cleared each other by about a foot or so going 120+ mph right at each other. I got off the brakes when I hit the dirt and rode it out until I slowed enough to get back on the road...I was lucky there wasn't a culvert there but I would have taken a culvert over a head on with that jeep. Funny thing is my sister had just texted me and I had considered texting her back and decided to wait until I stopped. If I had been looking down at my phone when that happened we would have all been dead.

120+ mph?! That's pretty reckless, but I'm glad you averted a catastrophe nonetheless with quick instincts.
2 cars coming head on at each other at 60+ = 120mph+ head on impact = everyone dead or seriously ed up...for sure the jeep...I was in a crew cab full size pickup.

Oh ok, I considered that, but I thought when you said "running 75" you meant that's how fast you were going, so I cancelled out the combined speeds.
Anyways, my family was in a head on injury on Ranch Road 12 when I was a child and it's always been a big fear of mine since. Luckily we escaped with minor injuries and the other car didn't have any passengers bc they'd be dead.

I hammered the antilock brakes when I saw them coming into my lane before leaving the pavement...Figure I had it down to 60 by the time we passed each other.

LOL surprised she didn't pee her pants. She woke up as I was going cross country fishtailing on the dirt/gravel shoulder of the ditch at 60 mph and about a 20 degree angle.

Now that I think of it, it was probably the OH ! right before the dirt and gravel started flying that woke her up.
