Supposedly little Shrubya has never lost a debate for public office, which is probably inaccurate since he lost his very first congressional bid. But I have a feeling this was largely due to the fact that he was an outsider. No one, even us Texans really knew him. the governor of Texas has about as much control over the state as a dog on a pickup truck. He's more along for the ride. Now with 4 years to answer for, things might be different. Don't expect an easy victory for either side. Bush's main line of attack on Kerry (calling him weak on defense won't hold up in a real debate.)
Anyways this will probably be the first time I turn on the TV in half a year. Looking forward to it. Lets just hope they give us an actual debate this time. And let them actually address each other. (yeah right)

If you had a lick of sense Despurado, you would be fearing the debates. The end is near for your candidate!:next3
You're en led to your opinion but, I'm calling you out on this one."Bush's main line of attack on Kerry (calling him weak on defense won't hold up in a real debate.)"
Exactly what has John F. Kerry done in over 20 years of public service as a Senator for the people of Massachussets that demonstrates he is strong on defense?
We should start a pool on how many times Kerry will reference his Vietnam service during the debates.
Sounds good.
I say he will utter the word Vietnam at least 99 times. Averaging 33 per debate.
I'll say 25 in the first one, but it will be so noticeable and distracting that his advisors will recommend that he tone down the Vietnam stuff... and he will only mention it 8 more times in the second debate, 12 times in the third (if applicable).
can we also count how many times Bush says 9-11?
Sure. But, seeing as how the attacks on 9-11 and our war against global terrorism are contemporary events, I'm not sure why you'd be surprised that it'd be a topic of discussion for potential Presidents.
9-11 is a current issue that most Americans are still concerned with and Vietnam is history.
if 9-11 is such a current issue, why are we in iraq? i dont remember them attacking us on that day. as long as the swift boat idiots keep putting out attack ads about vietnam, dont expect it to go away
You don't pay attention, Bandit.
Iraq is part of the war on global terrorism. We're still in Afghanistan. Terrorists still want to kill us all.
We've debated these issues ad naseum in this forum and I'm not about to relieve them. Either you believe the President or you don't. I didn't see him pandering for the appeasement vote anyway.
If John Kerry would quit running on just his Vietnam record, the Swifties wouldn't be so prominent. In fact, I wish he would start talking about his Senate career.
funny you mention that, considering all Bush is running on is 9-11...why cant he talk about jobs, wages, poverty, health care, the economy, etc? oh yeah, because his record is crap when it comes to those things![]()
Bandit, did you even watch or read the President's speech? Unless my memory is failing me, he did talk about those issues.
he talked about his record on those issues? hey, if people want to blast kerry for his record, bush's record is fair game too, and it aint pretty
Maybe Kerry should bring up those things instead of harping on about Vietnam.
Both candidates have referenced the war on terrorism in their campaigns. It's perfectly logical that Bush would talk about 9/11 since he was President at the time, and a good portion of his Presidency revolved around responding to the attacks and the War on Terror that ensued as a result of them.
Democrats seem to want Republicans to pretend 9/11 never happened. I'm not sure why.
its hard to get off vietnam when the swift boat ads keep rolling in reminding everyone about the war and hashing old memories up. no one wants anyone to forget 9-11, but when thats all Bush is running on, its pretty weak considering there are other issues that need to be addressed as well
Bush is running on National Security, which he and his followers feel is the most important issue of the time.
The Swift Boat Vets are relevant because Kerry continues to congratulate himself for enlisting in Vietnam. Chicken/Egg. If he would simply shrug them off and emphasize that events of 30 years ago are not relevant to what he can do for America today, they would have far less impact. In fact, they might have a negative impact on Bush.
With speeches like the one he gave last night, he only feeds them.
Seemingly, Kerry's biggest running points are, in no particular order:
- He will be strong on terror, and you know this because he fought in Vietnam.
- His integrity should not be questioned by anyone, because he fought in Vietnam.
- Bush mislead the country into a war in Iraq, even though if Kerry had been President he would have gone as well.
i think these next 2 months will be pretty focused on domestic agendas, but thats just my hunch...you cant deny this has been probably the most entertaining election ever! its almost a shame one person has to lose, i think both candidates really feel they are the solve-all for america
Actually, he talked about his agenda on those items...in addition to his record. And, I think he's more than prepared to talk about his record on these issues."he talked about his record on those issues? hey, if people want to blast kerry for his record, bush's record is fair game too, and it aint pretty"
, he even pointed you to his website for more information...
Admit it, you didn't watch the speech, did you?
Bush was certainly more specific about domestic issues than Kerry was in his convention speech.
i did, actuallyAdmit it, you didn't watch the speech, did you?![]()
Are you sure? 'Cause you didn't walk away with much of it in memory.
