Griffin expected to begin on-field running next week

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is expected to receive clearance to resume running on the field within the next week, his father said. The details of Griffin’s rehabilitation had largely been kept under wraps aside from a few vague updates from Coach Mike Shanahan, orthopedic surgeon James Andrews and most recently, Griffin himself. Griffin was said to be “ahead of schedule,” by all three, and Andrews described the quarterback as “superhuman” in his recovery. But the extent of Griffin’s capabilities hadn’t been revealed. Robert Griffin Jr. on Monday, however, revealed exactly how far along his son was in his recovery. “He’s been running in the pool, and some on the treadmill,” he told The Post. “But they’re just about ready to take it out on the field.” Griffin tore the ACL, lateral collateral ligament and meniscus in his right knee during Washington’s Jan. 6 playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He had surgery Jan. 9 to repair all three ligaments. By Feb. 2, when he accepted the rookie of the year award on the eve of the Super Bowl, he was walking without crutches. Griffin last week reiterated his goal of returning to the field by the start of the 2013 season, but he added that he wouldn’t risk a setback that could damage his career long-term.

Good to hear...would've been a shame to see his playoff career end with 88 passing yards

Best thing to happen to him, tbh. He's too risky when when scrambles, and he has a good arm so maybe he'll use it more.

Peyton Manning and Tom Brady can't run. They know that fact so they "must" look at all their progressions. RGIII knows he has the speed to hurt a defense so he will be taking off because he can. Unless he makes a very real commitment to being a get a little then bail QB, his days as an NFL QB are numbered.

RGIII can adjust. If I were him, I'd spend some time with Russell Wilson to get Russ's thoughts on how to play the position. Wilson can run too, but he's always looking downfield and using his legs to buy time.

Once you break the pocket, stop trying to hit the homerun. SLIDE. Protect yourself, and the future of your team. When the playoffs come, then you can stretch for the extra yard in certain situations.

RG3 will always rely on his jungle instincts at the end of the day. This will never change.

Yep. ESPN will hate him for it though.
