No, he would have fired his coach if he would have been benched. He would have stayed in and taken bad shots and lost the game.

Shut up, your team got swept! That was a smart move by our coach, we are not self centered like your Kobe Bryant. This is about our team, not one person, that's the reason this franchise is successful.
Kobe's the only player in history that benched himself in an elimination game without ever leaving the court.
He'd just blow out his ACL... what too soon?
tell me how many great players would be all right with being benched in the 4th again?
maybe he should've been and the Lakeshow would've won a ring in 2004, tbh...
Smart move by the coach and by a player whom knows all will be forgiven after the next 8 wins this year!
It wasn't an elimination game for SA re lol. Duncan actually knows to stop when he isn't playing well. Same thing can't be said for Kobrick, just like the 04 Finals when he shot 43-113.
Exactly! Reason why Lakers still looking for a good coach.![]()
Duncan would never get ejected on technical fouls in an elimination game and sulk off the court like a whiny , like someone wearing a Laker jersey.
I would have never watched Naruto as a kid, much less as a 28 years old grown ass man.
kobe would be on the other end of the elimination game
Kobe is currently benched on a hospital bed
Kobe will be lucky to get back to the playoffs to even have to worry about being benched. And it was an elimination game for the other team, not for the Spurs. Big difference.
Duncan's used to sitting on the bench late in games. . .because the Spurs blow teams out frequently.
Actually that isn't too funny considering Duncan's knee troubles. :P
Everything is fine with Duncan. There was even a time when he didn't start for the Spurs.
He won't ask for the ball in 48 minutes of play like Kobe.
There's no ego in our star player that's why @ 37 he's still playing for a championship.
It's called maturity, no grand standing, and teamwork.![]()
Tim needed a rest, and Splitter needed a boost of confidence. Honestly, I think this move was more about Pop trying to get Splitter confident and ready for Memphis. We need Splitter if we want to advance. Last night was the first time he looked good since his injury.
you're right he would fake being injured and leave the game
Duncan's 37..Kobe could definitely get benched during crunch time of an elimination game at the same age..
