Of the 4 remaining teams, they are the highest scoring and the worst defense (regular season...by a small margin), ranking #8 (regular season) in Opp. FG%.
That's an extremely random and specific stat to use as your only measurement for such a vague thing as defense. Let's look at some of the other defensive stats too.
Spurs were 3rd in the NBA in defensive efficiency rating, yes behind the Pacers and Grizzlies. Heat were way down at 9th place. So they Spurs are the 2nd worst, but that doesn't mean anything bad since they were 3rd in the NBA this season.
Spurs were also 5th in opponent's eFG% (better to use than FG%), Heat were 9th, Grizzlies were 3rd, Pacers were 1st
Spurs were 3rd in opponent ORB%. Pacers were 5th, Grizzlies 9th, Heat 23rd.
Spurs were 3rd in fewest free throw attempts to FGA ratio against. Pacers were 10th, Heat were 14th, Grizzlies were 21st.
FG% defense isn't everything (we were 8th btw, not 9th, at least on basketball reference. And only 0.3% from 4th, 0.7% from the Grizzlies). There are other factors too. That's why the Spurs were 3rd in defensive efficiency. I think I will take my chances with the 3rd best defensive team. . .especially when we're playing a below average offensive team like the Grizzlies. Pacers were below average offensively too.
But but they are old and slow

Random, no. Specific, yes. It's not everything. Just very indicative.
That perfect for entertainment!!
The other stats I posted are very indicative too. The overall package of defense is all up there. FG% is just one of many stats that measure D'. :P
If you're only going to use one stats, you should use defensive efficiency since it's basically points scored against team every 100 possessions. And we're 3rd in the NBA in that. :)
Yes but we don't dunk enough
and 66% of the time...it works every time.
The media and the fans eat up the defensive/post oriented grizzlies but the spurs are boring![]()
Maybe if we weren't Spurs fans we'd think they were boring.
Problem is we'll never know.
Maybe Tim and Tony need to start dressing like hipster d-bags for post-game.
It's pretty simple IMO. the spurs are a machine that wears black on the road and white/silver at home. watch the movie Metropolis. The Spurs are the big machine in that black and white movie.

Old stats. They are 3rd in defensive efficiency (points per 100 possessions), behind Indy and Memphis. Miami is seventh.
we lul our opponents to sleep. I thought everyone knew this
It's not about the points, it's not about the pace, it's about the star player. The Spurs wouldn't be called boring if they had a guy like let's say Iverson instead of Duncan as the franchise player.
That's the best problem in life, imho.![]()
can someone photochop a picture of the big three in thick rimmed glasses and skinny jeans with the caption "we played slow-em down, grind it out, elite defense before it was cool"?
With 4 players over 32 years old, 6 over 30 and this include T-Mac.![]()
Or, "We play sound, fundamental basketball.... You've probably never heard of it"
Opp FG% = Pop's #1, sacred indicator of defensive prowess, even in today's modern era.
