He's cheap and can cover either guard position. Keep him.
What do we do with De Colo? With the maturation of Cory Joseph, De Colo is no longer getting playing time. He has become a little angry(for lack of a better word) about minutes. Patty Mills is a good option for #3 PG. If Manu resigns, Green and Manu man the SG position. There will be very little minutes if any for him. His contract is small by NBA standard. Do we trade him or release him to return to Europe? Letting him out of the contract would clear cap space. (Bruno Is that right)? He has some value but I dont see it with the Spurs. I say work out an agreement and let him go back to Europe.
What do you think?
He's cheap and can cover either guard position. Keep him.
Can we cut him when we're 1 win away from a championship?
Keep him. Give him Gary's minutes.
Def keep him, this is his rookie season and he had a little improvement. Come next season, he'll get minutes since Neal is damn near out of the rotation.
I don't think he want's to be the third option either at PG or SG and he may see his minutes increase but it is not going to be close to what he is wanting.
If you know the Spurs you wouldn't give up on any player in year one.
He needs to learn the system better, bring his defense up to par, and learn to hit the open shot. He needs to get over thinking he's en led to anything.
If he does that, there will be minutes for the taking. Gary is unlikely to stay, and Manu's minutes probably need to drop again. And we tend to have injuries along the way that will give him an opportunity to show what he can do in an expanded role. What he's ultimately auditioning for is Manu's spot, given that Manu isn't going to be here for more than another year, two at the most.
He may have some value at the SG position as mentioned. Foreigners usually take a couple seasons to "get it".
If he's got any trade value at all, ship him off to ATL and swap first round picks with them. It's more important for the Spurs to get a decent, young big in this June's NBA draft. And the decent, young bigs rarely fall into the later stages of the round. You've got to move up to go get one.
DeColo cannot defend at the NBA level. His offensive game is suspect. Not a strong ball handler. Not a great penetrator. Not a consistent shooter.
i think that he should be jettisoned immediately. Cut our losses.
As to those who think Gary Neal should get DeColo's nonexistent minutes: Gary cannot defend at be NBA level. His offensive game is suspect. Not a strong ball handler. Not a great penetrator. Not a consistent shooter. Jettison him too.
Get rid of him. I've always thought he was dreadfully average. If it's possible to trade him then for the love of God do it.
good trade bait imo
Nando is a better player than many people think, otherwise the Spurs wouldn't have wasted any time or money on him.
He has the potential to be almost as wild and disruptive as Manu has been once he gets over himself and buys into the team concept and spends his energy on development of his skills. Probably has an ass-sucking agent who fills his head with crap.
Look at what Cory Joseph just did--D-League to the NBA Finals backup PG in less time than should ever be possible.
Nando boned himself by not seeing how smart that was as it was happening and it's too late to play catchup now, so his best bet is shutting his word-hole and getting to work on his game and his at ude right the now.
Might even get a few minutes in the show, and hopefully he's ready.
Next year I have higher hopes for DeColo, but if he doesn't rise up yesterday his future as a Spur is toast.
It's be really nice if Nando could develop. Because in many ways Corey isn't the backup PG on offense, Manu is. Manu handles the ball, usually initiates the offense. Corey is playing now for his D. But eventually we'll need a backup who has strong passing instincts, especially after Manu is gone and as Tony ages and needs more rest/is more likely to get injured. CJ may develop those offensive skills but like Mills they're not really natural to him. They are to Nando, but he's got a lot of weaknesses in his game to improve. One gets the impression DeColo feels he's already "there." If so, he'll never be of much use in the playoffs.
Nando just needs to understand if you're going to be mini Manu, you have to be confident at everything you do. In Pop's offense, there are times when you have an open shot, you have to take the shot. The poetry that is Pop's multiple pick and roll offense requires that when you have that shot, you become a threat to take it, because it makes the defense have to account for that shot and when they do, the floor balances and the defense cannot overplay. The passing Nando has, it's the shooting, and attacking he has to add to his game. He does that and the Spurs will be ready for when Manu ships out back to Bahia Blanca.
move him to SG.
Well said.
Send him to the D-league for playing time. His time will come.
Trade him for Thomas Robinson.
I'm sure there is a solution. Perhaps an 8th question mark would have helped you discover it.
Try to put him in a package to try to steal an earlier first round pick.
For those suggesting trade...the guy was a late second round pick that has proven absolutely nothing around the league to justify any value. Only the Spurs really know what they have in him, and they probably won't truly know until next season.
