Great pick up by them. LOL Lakers taking Mike D when Sloan was floating around out there.
Milwaukee Bucks have hired legendary long-time Jazz Head Coach Jerry Sloan to a deal and will be their coach next season! Since beginning his coaching career with the Bulls in 1979, Sloan has posted a 1,221-803 record as an NBA head coach. Most of the time came with Utah, a team he led to back-to-back NBA Finals appearances in the late 1990's.
Great pick up by them. LOL Lakers taking Mike D when Sloan was floating around out there.
Lol @ the thought of him coaching Monta Ellis..det negro gots to go fa sho now..
Backcourt is still a mess but I can see Sloan doing good things with Ersan, making him into a jack of all trades like AK47.
Seriously WTF Jim Buss?!!! I thought the official story was Sloan didnt want to ever coach again
He will hate that backcourt tbh
Ersan and Sanders are Sloan type guts luc Richard too
Luv Sloan, but LA is a bad fit ... ty fit for Mike D too
Jerry Sloan would have won at least one game in the opening round, and not struggled with the respect issue. His team would have made the playoffs hands down.
Sloan is overrated, but still better than 90% of the coaches in the NBA, just by having a reliable system, tbh..
Milwaukee has a nice frontcourt, tbh..Sanders, Ilyasova and Henson is a trio with a lot of potential and a good balance of style..
Jennings is gone, and there's a decent chance that Ellis is gone, too..if they can eliminate both, they'll be in good shape..
Sloan coaching Kobe Bryant![]()
So basically you're saying he's overrated but then throw out a statistic that you think he would be the 3rd best coach in the NBA. (better than 90% x 30 NBA coaches = Sloan is better than at least 27 NBA coaches). Yeah that makes sense![]()
I'm not a huge fan of Sloan - his system is really outdated compared to the modern NBA... that being said, the Bucks will still be a better team for this, I'm sure he'll force at least one of the Jennings/Monta duo out of town after all....
You mean the system that had people thinking Deron Williams was better than Chris Paul?
The system that didn't win in the weak mid-2000's West, led by a coach who hates three-pointers and encourages his players to foul a lot...
Plus he quit on his teamPERIOD
I don't know if a guy like Sloan can succeed in today's NBA. He only lasted as long as he did in Utah because he had the backing of the Miller family. Your modern rich athlete doesn't want to get screamed at.
Sloan really needs chuckers kept off his team..the thought of him watching some team run his motion offense with all kinds off picks, back screens, and off ball movement and then it just ending in some Monta type scrub hacking up a 20 footer..he wouldn't be long for that..
Pop is the best coach in the NBA, but he's overrated as IMO..
Being good/great doesn't mean you can't be overrated..many people consider Sloan to be on the same level as the elite coaches in NBA history, which is why I consider him to be overrated..
NBA coaching is the worst of any sport, tbh..they rarely give new coaches a chance, despite the success of inexperienced HCs of the past few years having great success(Thibs and Vogel, for instance)..NBA GMs are afraid of giving a chance to unknown names, tbh, which is why they continue to recycle ty coaches..
NBA front offices should be looking into hiring Euro leagues and college coaches more often, tbh..
Knowing Sloan, Sanders and Henson might start with Ilyasova at 3. Ellis might come off the bench with Jennings and Red starting.
This is good news, that means nate mcmillan is comin to the lakers
Nate McMillan on the Lakers would be worse than Mike Brown tbqfhwy
You're ed and un able, a leper, no one wants anything to do with crip and the bas creator. That team will be soon be the place where hopefuls avoid in fear of losing their career at the hands of a crippled rapist.
I agree with some of this, but think Pop is only slightly overrrated. Kinda like PJ before he coached without MJ ....
We never seen Pop without Duncan for very long ... but in those stretches he has did well ...just not sure he can sustain it ...
But that is ALL he has left to prove. He still has a good team but the record he has led the Spurs to with all of the injuries the past 3 seasons
is probably his greatest coaching stint ... at least close to his le years ...few coaches get the wins Spurs had last few years.
Sloan would coach Achilles well ...he is borderline dirty and Jerry loves that ...
Congrats to the Lakers, for pulling off a trade of sending a 2nd rounder and Andrew Goudelock to Milwaukee in exchange for Monta Ellis, Larry Sanders, and Ersan Ilyasova.![]()
Coaching at the NBA level is overrated in general. Talent trumps coaching every time.
Some people still think Spoelstra is a horrible coach. Doesn't matter. He has LeBron. Larry Brown was widely considered one of the greatest coaches ever and he didn't win for like 40 years. Before the KG and Ray Allen acquisitions, Doc Rivers was starting to gain the reputation as one of the dumbest coaches in the league. Soon as he got KG, Pierce, and Allen together and won a le, he's all of a sudden perceived as a great basketball mind.
Talent trumps. Does coaching help? Sure, to an extent, but only to a limited extent. Sloan ain't turning the Bucks into legit le contenders. Phil Jackson wouldn't turn the Bobcats into a playoff team. And LeBron's mom can coach the Heat and that wouldn't hurt their chances at another le. NBA coaching is overrated.
Actually, you need both.... talent will usually lose if there's an idiot like Vinny Del Negro, Mike D'Antoni, Scott Skiles, Byron Scott, etc. at the helm who can't run plays or make adjustments....
Sure, it's very hard to win without star players, but coaching and talent are more of a symbiotic relationship than people think it is, tbh...
And those people are idiots, Spoelstra is a great coach.... just look at the ball movement and the system they're running....Some people still think Spoelstra is a horrible coach.
