Where does Kawhi rank? I also like his post defense as well, this year he's looking very good on D, better than last year especially at playing the passing lanes. In a few years he should definitely be an elite defender.

Rondo, Shumpert, Matthews, Bledsoe, Batum, Harden, Wallace, P George, all solid defenders as well.

^Batum is a poor defender. Harden isn't a good defender. Rondo has come back to earth recently.

Kawhi was average last year. This season, it's too early to tell. Way too soon to put him even in the top 20 but I like what I see so far coming back from injury. We'll know more in another couple weeks; games against the Hornets, Mavericks and Raptors (all have really weak SFs) won't tell us much of anything.

^ Yeah, the hardest wings to guard were Danny's assignments for those games, and he did a good job shutting them down. On Friday, I think Leonard will get some minutes on Harden, as Green wasn't able to contain him much last time Harden played the Spurs. Throughout the season, I expect to see Leonard get time on big shooting guards and good small-forwards while Green guards smaller twos and ones when Parker needs a break. One thing you can say about Leonard is that he's taken advantage of the easier assignments. He's pretty much erased the players he's been guarding, and he's used the lighter one-on-one workload to play the passing lanes. I hope Green does the same thing when Leonard gets the tougher assignment.

Yeah it's probably too early to tell if Kawhi is a Top 5 perimeter defender, but he's looked awesome ever since he's come back from being hurt. I'll say one thing, he sure can read the passing lanes very well...

Decent list cd, but no way Leonard is a better defender than Tony Allen. Not yet.

I would add to the list Moute, Kirilenko, Gerald Wallace and Luol Deng. All elite perimeter defenders.

LeBron is not consistently the best perimeter defender, but he is very good. Tony Allen, Shumpert, Avery Bradley, Deng, Iggy and Sefolosha.

Shumpert seems a little overrated in my opinion my seemed slightly above average, and when Woodson took over, he got pegged as their stopper. James, when focused, is easily the best in my book, capable of shutting down D Rose ( or at least making life difficult) to Pau, fronting him and denying entry into the post.

Kawhi isn't even a top 10 perimeter defender, tbh..

In no particular order(excluding PGs): Iguodala, Deng, George, Allen, Lebron, Mbah a Moute, Kirilenko, Brewer, Sefolosha, Kidd would be my top 10, off the top..

Kawhi has the potential to be top 5 some day, but to say he already is at that level is delusional. His perimeter defense last season wasn't anything special at all. Arguably he's not even the best perimeter defender on the Spurs.

I actually think Leonard is an overrated defender, at least by what's being said in this thread.

It's definitely to early to place him in the top 5 of any defenders list.

Way too early to place Kawhi Leonard in the top 5 of league-wide defenders. But he has been very good with personal defense, and amazing at playing the passing lanes.
