My wife took the kids out of town with my in laws today and so I did something I haven't done since my early 20's....I called in fake sick to work.

I left the couch roughly twice today, and it was everything I thought it could be. Some of my friends have told me that I wasted my day and should have gone golfing or something. I disagree. Everyone that has small children knows the joy of a silent house and honestly, this may have been the best day of my life....other than the kids being born, blah blah blah....

Thoughts? What would you do with a free day?

having a home that belongs only to yourself is a real pleasure of life. I enjoy living with my parents but having the calm and quietness is a whole different taste, like you have entered a world of yourself where you're free to do anything. I used to do "something" whenever I was alone at home. I could do it in the bathroom even when they were at home but the biggest satisfaction could only be acquired when I did it lying in bed while making some sounds. That was like a must-do to me but I haven't done than thing for about two months now because I feel I can obtain more pleasure spiritually from my goddess than anything I could ever receive from rubbing my

true story and I'm proud of my celibacy. I'm just to smart to ever fall into a 's trap, but it's not like I'm gay or something like your friend Luva. I also appreciate a woman's beauty like most men do, but I never need to thrust my into a dark humid hole to please myself. I reap more pleasure spiritually from my goddess than all that you can ever procure from a pussy

As long as it isn't a normal thing to do, just tell yourself you were sick of working and needed a break.

I have never called in sick when I wasn't. In the last 5+ years, I used two sick days. I was sick.

Now with a previous employer, I have called in well...

On a few nice days, I called my boss and asked if he could do without me for the day.

I will admit, there are times I feel like calling in sick, just because things are hectic at times at work. i would feel bad if I did though, knowing I was needed and bailed. My ethics don't allow me to do that.

I completely agree though. If time by yourself is what you rarely have. It was a day well spent.

That's the main problem, the guilt...well, that and I've been here now since 6 Am and I'm still not even done with my emails from yesterday...stupid karma!

Every once in a while it's okay. We all do it. Just don't take your job for granted, that's a good way to lose your job.

That's my problem, even playing hooky, I would be checking my emails throughout the day sporadically which really just takes away from the relaxation and Bueller-for-the-day lifestyle.

Same here. Then I feel like I have to play catch up. If you need to play hooky all the time, maybe that means you just don't want to work.

One of my hospital jobs included a couple of "mental health" days so you wouldn't have to call in sick if you just needed time to relax your brain. They figured that everyone does it, so why have to lie about it?

I think everyone needs some selfish solitude time and there is NO reason to feel guilty about it. I love my solitude. Granted I spend a lot of time alone because I'm a SAHM with school age kids, but not much of my time is "me time"----I may be alone but I'm constantly doing things for everyone else. I treasure any day I can be alone, not leave my house and just relax. I read in my big comfy bed, do some puzzles, and watch some old movies; have a couple of drinks or smoke if I feel like it and have a long bubble bath, listening to some great music........

    Know the feeling tbh.

Don't have loud kids but I have a college roommate who screws around, is loud, and fails/borderline passes just about every class Everytime he leaves for the weekend or something, I just want to relax IMHO never feel the urge to rush out and do anything

Ive learned alot since Ive been working since 16yrs old..........your job doesnt give 2 s about you when you get right down to it. They use you until ANYTHING goes bad with the company. Watch how fast they lay your ass off if they have to. I say F it. I call in sick when I feel like it. PTO is for you to use however you like.

I would probably spend at least part of it on our little porch swing, possibly with a beer. Our neighborhood is pretty quiet, and there is something deeply soul-refreshing about sitting around looking at trees, listening to birds, and drinking a good, cold, beer.

That and shamelessly play video games.

This assumes the to-do list my wife has for me is empty... (sighs)

    Pretty much.

Most employers view their workers these days as cost centers, to be disposed of in a heartbeat if the CEO's stock options are threatened by the latest quarterly numbers.

Eff 'em. They get to reap the loyaty they sew.

I got to work around 6 AM this morning...I had 112 unread emails from Monday. Today was one of the most stressful days I've had at work for a while, and it was absolutely awful........I would still do what I did and call in sick the day before....turns out one full day of silence is the Best. Thing. Ever!!!!
