Soon he is expected to become an official member of the Brand Jordan family.
A deal between Leonard and Nike is in the works to add the player Spurs coach Gregg Popovich has called “the future face of the franchise”to its Jordan brand basketball group. It is an exclusive group that includes Clippers star Chris Paul and seven other current All-Stars.
Leonard, a collector with a self described closet full of some of the most iconic Nike basketball shoes, will be the fourth player recently added to the Jordan brand group in recent days. Nike last week announced the additions of rookies Victor Oladipo, Otto Porter Jr. and Cody Zeller.
The deal may be finalized while the Spurs are in Portland for a game against the Trail Blazers. Nike headquarters are in suburban Beaverton, Ore.
