I'm not throwing any darts at anybody, but what does everybody think about the effect of fantasy leagues on the end product of games, broadcasts, reporting, etc?

I think it stinks. Football is THE prototypical team sport. Focusing on the output of flashy offensive players isn't good for the game and definately doesn't increase the knowledge of the average NFL fan.

They were discussing what cons utes an athlete the other day on the radio and someone actually had the nerve to suggest that offensive linemen weren't athletes. Never mind that you could probably take any lineman in the NFL and he would be twice the size and twice as fast as the guy who called in.

We complain all the time when "national media" stresses flashy dunks and acrobatics, when it is teamwork and performing your job that wins the basketball game. Then we turn around and do the same thing ourselves that we accuse others of.

i tend to agree with you, whatever floats people's boats is fine, I have nothing against what they like, but i blow off fantasy football and don't even acknowledge its existence.

its just a harmless little vice like gambling, and women, which the pezzonovante of the church don't allow, but its better than drugs..drugs is a dirty business

Well, the NFL likes it because it brings viewers to games that otherwise wouldn't get much attention. But even with the increased viewership, I doubt that much knowledge of the game will be increased while you still have Sportscenter and the play-by-play bringing nothing but the blatently f'ing obvious to the attention of the viewers.

If they added pancake blocks by OL to fantasy ball, would that work for you

In all seriousness, who cares what the talking heads have to say about things? Just enjoy the game.

Personally, I still have my favorite team (Dallas), but it's fun to root for guys on your team and watch other games that you might not necessarily care about but get caught up in due to stats.

Fantasy football is an exercise in math, logic, gambling and reading comprehension, that has very little to do with the game of football, except for marketing.
