The judge didn't hand down the sentence, it was agreed upon by the prosecution. Still seems ed up though.

The reason the white guy got 30 days is so he could pay probation costs for the next 15 years. The alternative is that the state pays for him. You don't have that option with a black man. Probation offices don't accept food stamps.

I believe if a black dude has the right tongue to tell the judge and the jury a story (no matter true or fake) to exonerate himself, he would've also had a good chance to get away with such a crime. While the fact is most s can't even clear themselves of s when they're innocent.
