(For those of you hoping "bread" has some dirty double meaning, let me save you the time and trouble... I'm really talking about bread.)
Okay, the Real Women thread jumped up to, like, 10 pages over the course of a couple days and I'm too slow a reader to catch up on the whole thing, so the other day, I just jumped to page ten to see how far off-topic the discussion had swayed. Anyway, my point is, I saw something about cooking and buying flour.
I love to cook. But baking has always been my nemesis. Perhaps it is because my piece-of- no-name oven burns about 50 degrees hotter than the dial says it does. Anyway...
So, lately, I've been on this weird girly domestic kick and I decided I needed to bake bread. I started with a simple focacia and used it to make a nice pesto-sauce pizza. Yum. Today I made a round-loaf French bread. And it was perfect. Crusty on the outside. Chewy on the inside. I was so proud.![]()
This post has no point. But damnit, we have *looks at watch*, I dunno, weeks to kill before we have games to talk about and I wanted to share my accomplishment with y'all.

My sister makes outstanding rosemary bread.
Congrats on your cullinary accomplishments, Summers.
Make sure you use fresh rosemary. That's the key! Should make two loaves.
1 Tbsp. Dry Yeast
1 Tbsp. Sugar
1 Cup warm water (105 - 115 degrees)
2 1/2 Cup white flour
1 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. fresh rosemary, chopped
1 Tbsp. canola oil, peanut oil or olive oil
nonstick cooking spray
2 Tbsp. butter
Place yeast, sugar and water in large bowl or food processor and allow mixture to become bubbly.
Miz in 2 cups of flour and the salt. Add one tablespoon of
the fresh chopped rosemary. Knead for about 10 minutes by hand or in food processor about 30 seconds until smooth and elastic. add flour if necessary. Oil a bowl, put dough in it and cover with a towel. Let dough rise in a warm place for one hour until doubled.
Punch down dough and divide in half. Let dough rest about 5-10 minutes.
Spray baking pan or cookie sheet with cooking spray. Shape the dough into 2 small rounded oval loaves.
Melt margarine or butter. Brush over the top of the loaves. Sprinkle remaining 1 Tabelspoon of rosemary over the loaves and press lightly into the surface. Let loaves rise again until doubled, about 45 minutes.
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
Lightly sprinkle course salt over the loaves. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until lightly browned.

3 eggs, well beaten
½ cup sugar
½ cup butter
½ cup flour
1 tsp lemon extract (for variation almond or vanilla)
Add sugar to eggs, and beat well (too much and the krumkakes are tough), melt butter and add to mixture, then add flour and flavoring.
Cook in krumkake iron until 'golden brown' cooking time will vary depending on your stove, iron, batter etc. I cook for 30-45 seconds on each side.
