Long overdue
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- Joe Dumars tried to push the Detroit Pistons back toward the playoffs with a couple of big moves last offseason.
That didn't work, and now the Pistons will be hiring someone else to replace him.
Detroit has decided not to renew Dumars' contract as president of basketball operations, a person familiar with the situation said Sunday. The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team has not made any announcement on Dumars' future, says Dumars will remain with the Pistons as an adviser.

Some good draft picks in recent bad drafts, but Knight for Jennings was a wash statistically and a bath financially, and he'll always be haunted by how he had the opportunity to pick Anthony, Bosh, Wade and chose Darko.
He got them a ring. Its not a disgraceful resignation.
but they had teyshaun prince!

shouldve milked whatever was left of them 07 pistons instead of breaking up the team for a decade of non playoffs....
Shameful FA signings since '09 or so. Ben Gordon, Charlie Villanueva, Josh Smith, Brandon Jennings, ... The way they did Rip and Tayshawn, etc. Horrible. Makes the le and the great team look like dumb luck, which it probably was.
the way the ben gordon thing developed, it's probably the most curious signing there. Gordon was never a star, but he was a volume shooter/scorer, and one of the better young scorers in the league at the time. they threw the big money at him to pry him away from Chicago, and they never really played him or gave him a chance to succeed. why you go out of your way to sign a talented young player and never give him minutes is just mind boggling. obviously Charlie V signing was a flop because the dude just sucked, but Gordon actually had talent. very bizarre
People in Detroit have wanted Dumars gone for years
It was long over due for a change......Piston fan must be worried that they will
go from bad to worse by hiring Isiah Thomas.
