Wish there was a recording of Guthrie singing this gem that he wrote. Tweedy does it service though.
Bob Dylan was a big fan of Woody Guthrie. Woody played with black artists Lead Belly, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGee, Alec Sewart. Dylan was also a big fan of Ramblin' Jack Elliott who was also a huge Woody Guthrie fan. Cisco Houston played on a a lot of Guthries stuff along with playing his own.
On Dylans first album he covers Blind Lemon Jeffersons..."Please See My Grave Is Kept Clean". On his Vanguard recordings (early on) Ramblin' Jack covers Blind Lemons classic "Black Snake Moan".
So a cool mix...
Blind Lemon Jefferson
Lead Belly
Woody Guthrie
Sonny Terry & Brownie McGee
Woody, Sonny & Alec Sewart
Cisco Houston
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
Bob Dylan
Kris Kristofferson...who played with Ramblin' Jack
Dave Van Ronk...a big influense on everyone around that Greenwich Village scene of the early 60's. Like Dylan, Elliott.
John Hammond...he just belongs as do the two below.
Spider Koerner
Eric Von Schmidt
Wish there was a recording of Guthrie singing this gem that he wrote. Tweedy does it service though.
Good stuff!
I have a CD of his real early stuff, His..Po' Boy..fantastic. His work with harmonica wizard Sonny Terry great.
I expected that to suck, wrong. Not bad.
Thought the Inside Llewyn Davis soundtrack was pretty solid
