    Just a thought...
The NBA has a lot of rules that try to balance teams, particularly the salary cap, taxes and others.

But does it have rules to balance conferences?
The way I see it now, with only Miami and Indiana qualifying to the POs if they were in the West, there’s gonna be a lot of teams participating in the POs that are...bad.

More than that, these teams won’t get high draft picks, so the difference between conferences will increase even more.

It seems to me that the only way that this "problem" will be solved is by trades, FA pickups, players forcing trades, etc; in other words, not rules.
There are no rules trying to keep conferences balanced.

Did something like this happen during the 90? I watched basketball during the 90s, not a lot, there weren’t many games available on TV in Argentina.
Was Chicago like Miami and Indiana? And the West was still the best conference.

    Just curious...

It's simple:::the chickens have come home to roost and viciously:::there is not enough NBA talent to encompass 30 teams. No way. Perhaps 10 teams, yes, 12 teams tops, perhaps.

& it's gonna get worse. A lot worse.

It's not a vicious circle and rules help to balance conference. East teams are getting the best picks most of the years.

They got a lot of talent in the last 10 years: Lebron, Wade, Bosh, George, Dwight, Rose, Irving, Wall
8 of the last 11 number 1 pick were drafted in the East

The reasons the East sucks are Miami super friends, Injuries and bad managment

Lebron, Wade, Bosh (on the same team now), George (only strong player on a decent team otherwise in the East), Dwight (now in the West and has been for the last 2 seasons), Rose (hasn't played in forever, which is part of the problem with Chicago), Irving (on a ty franchise), Wall (same as Irving).
Because so much talent has amassed on one or two teams, some injuries and such, the others are left sucking.

New York and Brooklyn are anomalies. They are stacked with talent but are under performing. That's due to having historically piss poor management and a system that allows NY to make a huge profit without selling a single ticket at the Garden.

You take the Suns, put them in Milwaukee with the same players but Milwaukee's coach and front office... they don't make the playoffs.

You bring the Knicks to San Antonio, and after some chaff shedding, they make the Finals a few times, maybe ring.

just exchange SW division and central division, problem solved. 4.5 teams of the SW division are playoff quality and they would definitely heat up the East's compe iveness imho.
