Man among boys tbh. Bullied his way into a front office
I was gonna start a thread about him, too.
This confirms PER as the stat, tbh.
Meh, it was a widely known fact that the Grizz were better sans Gay. That Cleveland trade was a headscratcher, but the Gay trade was great both short term and long term.
It's flawed but probably among the best stats right now. Not necessarily "the" stat, it's just that the NBA has so far to go to catching up to baseball's metrics.![]()
He's just validating what most of us advanced stat advocates have be saying for years, tbh..
Certain fanbases(such as Al-Quobe), like to use arguments that are based on non-quantifiable traits like "killer instinct", while using opinions from NBA people that won the genetic lottery..they always dismissed advanced metrics, but the NBA is on the precipice of conventional methods, tbh..
Advanced stats are the present of the NBA, and they're going to play a prominent part in the future..
Unfortunately, this also breeds idiots like da suns fan that support Wages of Wins..
Mah HH.
NBA people
Adrian Wojnarowski eating crow and getting his pushed in by Hollinger.

Levien is making these deals based largely on the recommendations of John Hollinger, a statistician who worked for a cable sports company. The San Antonio Spurs once used him as a consultant and regretfully took his advice to sign a free agent named Jackie Butler. It was such a disaster, the Spurs had to attach Luis Scola to a trade to get Butler out of town.
This wasn't the '86 Celtics broken up in Memphis today, but, still, a contender became something far less over the past week. All of this didn't need to happen so fast. Between an owner guaranteed to make a profit and a front office guaranteed to believe it's smarter than everyone else, the Western Conference has one less contender to come chasing the defending champion Heat in the NBA Finals.
At least Kirby didn't make an All-D team this season
Really yall gonna use this win as a validation of Chimpy Hollinger?!
When Memphis won in 2011 without Gay and pre-Hollinger who gets the credit then?
He just saw what we all saw in 2011 ... I dont give him bonus points for that. he made a good trade but the players primarily responsible for the series win were all there BEFORE he took over.
This makes no sense. DPG could of made the same trade and wouldnt need PER to do it either ...
LOL, funny thing Prince brings lots of "intangibles" that dont show up in stat sheet ...Gasol too
Realizing that he could trade Gay away and his team would still be OK despite common belief (a lot of people on Gay but very few thought they wouldn't miss his scoring, tbh) is a testament to his trust on advanced stats.
Sorry that advanced metrics don't favor Kirby, homie. Just a fact you're gonna have to accept.
And as HH said, they are the wave of the future. The sooner per game stats die, the better.
The 6ers just hired Sam Hinkie, as well..
Every team in the NBA has implemented an advanced stat priority in their front office and sent members of their franchise to the Sloan conference this year, other than the Lakers, IIRC..
R.C.'s staff must be pretty good.
Toronto has a great analytics office, but they're overridden by a bad GM.
The Trollinger experiment and analytical hiring turned out to be an awesome decision![]()
Every front office in the league uses some sort of proprietary analytics. You could even argue that small-market clubs like Memphis need every compe ive advantage that they can get; they don't have the $$$$ nor are they a desirable destination to attract free agents.
This is all a huge miscalculation. You see, I was merely demonstrating to Mr. Pera that when you run an inverse corollary formula regarding penis length and girth, combined with a penile curvature chart, along with a thrust capability multiplier and pubic grinding theorem, then the numbers clearly show that I am 47% more capable of efficiently giving his wife an orgasm. But he completely misunderstood my calculations and claims I "boned" his wife, which is rather juvenile if you ask me.
Memphis did fine tbh...They got the furthest they had ever been with the help of Hollinger. They brought in a decent young coach and despite dealing with massive injuries, made the playoffs in a stacked West and took a fully healthy OKC to 7 games...
No they did not went further after 8, pre Hollinger.
