Can anyone give me a rough idea of what average homeowner's insurance costs? I know it's enormously variable depending on what's covered and location, etc, but even the roughest numbers would be helpful. Thanks!

I only have renter's and it's dirt cheap. I think it's fairly easy to get a quote over the phone, maybe even online. But, they can't really give you much to go on if you don't know details about construction, etc. I think there are some actual adults on this board who own homes so I'm sure they'll be of more (or, any) help

Mine is about $150/mo on a house with a $250K MV + contents.

There's so many variables, though, including personal items of value...like stamp or coin collections, jewelry, antique furniture, electronics, appliances...etc...that would be covered under the policy.

All I know is we need it and I pay for it. I guess I pay 75 bucks. I really don't know. But yeah, renters insurance is like 17 bucks though.

We pay about $1100 a year for $185K plus contents. We have a couple of small riders for things like modest jewelry and wife's laptop (used in her biz). D/FW area, six-year old house and yes it is USAA.

Also depends on the AGE of the home. Newer home, lower Insurance. Get mine through USAA so I get VERY good rates

435.27 annually, new home in College Station WAY lower than my older home in San Antonio and my new home is $10K more (also 10 yrs newer)

    177K dwelling
    140K contents
    36 K loss of Use
    100K Personal Liability each occurance
1K medical payments to others each person

1,700 deductible for wind and hail
    1,700 deductible for Other perils

Hussker, thank you for your service & memebership sir.
Check to see if you have a VPP (which used to be a PAF) pol & a computer endrsmnt as well. VPP pols carry NO ded & also have an option for blanket cvrg so you don't have to itemize everything on it.
Cmptr Endrsmnt is apprx $1/mo & would lower your ded for cmptr & its accessories to $100 per loss vs $1.7K.
