It was between him and Jon Stewart--I'd rather have Jon Stewart as the host although there is someone out there I prefer more when catching clips of late night shows, late at night.
is this real life?
will he stay in character?

"The “Colbert Report” host will take over for David Letterman when he retires
CBS has named Stephen Colbert as new host of the “Late Show,” effective when David Letterman retires."
It was between him and Jon Stewart--I'd rather have Jon Stewart as the host although there is someone out there I prefer more when catching clips of late night shows, late at night.
I love sexy Colbert but he's so hyper it exhausts me.
Isn't that the goal? For you to be exhausted when finished?
Oh gawd yes.
Don't find that funny at all. I'd rather watch the WNBA draft than Colbert.
they got some fine ass girls I wanna in the mouth- Lil B
But......... my intellectual satire of moron conservatives
Stewart would have been a better choice. Much of colberts humor stems from his antics
Why didn't they pick Jon Stewart?
Stewart doesn't have to be "in character" and is much funnier, IMHO.
Yeah, Jon Stewart would've been funnier by a landslide.
I think Colbert will be good. He's a smart, personable guy very charming and much more laid back than the guy he does on his show now. He'll appeal to a pretty wide audience in that time slot. I love Jon Stewart too, but I think his appeal is pretty limited---not because he's not capable but because he's pretty much pigeon holed himself into what he does. Also I think everyone who wants to watch Jon Stewart is already watching him; I don't think he could attract a much bigger audience.
Extremely interesting development
He said obviously his CR character won't go to CBS show, but will the real SC fly on latenight as his CR character does?
Is CR writers are very good, will he take them to CBS?
I have never seen him out of character. I saw an interview he did with Neil deGrasse Tyson outside of his show and he was still the same re ed sarcastic character he plays on the Colbert Report.
maybe he'll turn out to be funny not pretending to be someone else?
I LOATHE Colbert Report and I don't watch late night shows unless there's an interesting guest so I don't give a regardless.
I dont see how his character as it stands on comedy central will work in Letterman's spot. He'll have to tone his character down for sure.
Whats up with STewart being passed over for the spot?
Very weird.
Don't find him or his shtick funny. Go Kimmel.
Kimmel is the dictionary definition of unfunny
This is gonna crash and burn so bad.
Cause Fallon is really that hard to top in terms of comedy. He's been relying on gimmicky to keep buzz about him taking over
tbh he won't be using his schtick, which means he'll probably have high ratings to begin with so people will see what he's really like. he could bomb after that imo
I thought this was pretty good.
LOL typical Laker fan at the 1:50 mark
lol guy in blue shirt after the typical laker fan is a typical mavs fan all the way
