Did you miss Leonard getting burned by Ellis over and over down the stretch, tbh? His defense on Ellis was worse than Manu's and probably Belli's, tbh.
Leonard is not athletic enough to cover speedy guards like Ellis, per par.
Green's lack of play is clearly one of the main problems the Spurs are facing going into Game 4. If he's unable to hit the 3 or at least get some easy buckets in the paint, Pop will bench him. The problem is we have a big drop-off in defense especially when Leonard is out of the game since Green and Leonard are the team's best defenders.
Defense on Ellis was a disaster down the stretch. Not sure what Spurs were thinking putting Diaw on Ellis on the game-tying play. Leonard should have been guarding Ellis.
Wake the UP Danny Green - We Need You NOW!!!!

Kawhi is way too slow, tbh. Even VC was blowing right by him. His defense is more suited towards guarding slower post players.
Who?
Unfortunately, teams have figured out that if they keep Green off the 3 point line he's ineffective as a scorer.
Pop is too damn stubborn too.
The same situation applies with Houston. For whatever reason, Pop sticks Leonard on guys like Ellis or Harden when Green should be guarding them. Pop is really wasting what Leonard and Green do best by having them guard the wrong guys.
Leonard needs to stop going under the screen; it's allowing Ellis way too much room.
Since Leonard keeps going under the screen and Pop isn't pulling him aside to talk with him or outright benching him, I think we can safely say that's what Pop wants him to do.
Green needs to play at least 25 minutes to slow down Ellis - that will give us a much better shot at slowing the Mavs offensively since Ellis is really their only guy that can create plays on his own other than Nowitzki.
Stop dissing the franchise.
Duncan is the franchise (or arguably Parker at this point).
KL can't do everything.....
Green needs to make his shots, but he hasn't gotten many clean looks in this series, tbh..neither has Beli, but at least Green is a reliable defender..Pop just needs to stick with Green and live with his flaws, this team scored well last game, they need to play defense..
We need Green to lock shut down Ellis and at least be decent from the 3-point line.
His defense hasn't been anything to write home about this postseason. Lackadaisical on both ends of the court......tbh.
Green has the best defensive on/off metrics of any Spurs player in the series, tbh, while Bellineli is the worst..
I don't think his D has been anything special in the series, but the Spurs' have played their best defense when he's on the floor, and their worst defense when Beli is on the floor..
How Can Leonard be athletic enough to guard Lebron, but not Ellis. That said, they can not afford to go under the picks and leave Ellis wide open or they will get burned every time. Gotta fight through just the same way Bowen used to do it on those pick and rolls.
The problem with Green is he is not giving anything offense and he is actually turning the ball over since he forgets how to dribble in big games. If he wasn't turning the ball over he would probably get more playing time.
So but you can't compare Ellis to Lebron.
The guy cant dribble a ing basketball. He is a gimp of a player on d offensive end. Not his fault its on Pop who thought he could start this gimp and win the playoffs![]()
not sure what is up with Green. I hope his foot problem is not an issue. usually Chinook is around to defend him but he's been quiet as well. interesting.
Even when Danny's shot isn't going down, this isn't a series where you can hide Marco in big minutes with the lack of weak perimeter guys on the Mavs. Plus, they already need a place to throw Parker. Pop fixed the game plan against GS last year and can here too. Doesn't mean the execution will be there plus he's up against a real coach this time.
B-b-but he's more than just a 3 and D guy(who bites on every pump fake). How dare you!
Can't expect Danny get to wide open looks when the Mavs are daring Tim and Tony or Manu to make all the points, stick to the perimeter players and not get sucked in not to mention they're packing the paint with Dalembert and Dirk because we don't have bigs that shoot from the outside consistently.
Danny Green is a creation out of spacing and dribble, drive and kick or transition and neither of those things are working in this series. Pop would need to actually run plays for him to get him going like having him come off 3 or 4 screens and finally get him an open look but nah, we just dribble at the top of the key waiting for a switch and then go 1 on 1.. That's on Pop our COTY.
You make a great point - I don't see them running those staggered screens away from the ball to get shooters open like they did regularly in the reg season. Got to mix it up rather than just run pick and roll every time.
do you think lebron can win a championship as a #1 option?
