Duncan had athleticism until his big injury.
How did that work out ??

Duncan had athleticism until his big injury.
Bullshiz......Duncan had tall and IQ, thats it.
We drafted Duncan in 97 not 98 dumbass
Well excuse me got. 97 then.
TD was a pretty freaking good athlete when he was younger. Not Drob level, but still decent. He has a high Basketball IQ too, basically the whole package. That's why he was drafted number 1.
What a silly thread.
Not really. Its no sillier than wanting to draft a 6'-7" athlete that can jump out of the gym. Its all relative to what your teams needs are and how you are coached to play the game. The Spurs made a good choice, great fit for what we need and how our system WINS.
If this kid's defense doesn't get a lot better, then he might not be a great fit at all. He might not even get on the court because of it.
Jim Dunan also had a post game when he came into the league.
Wow, yall es are perfect. Never make mistakes. Its all good gots.
Duncan was athletic but compare to Drob, Duncan looked slow. Duncan qualities that set him apart from anyone else is his IQ and leadership abilities.
I have always said that Bird and Duncan were the best least athletic guys to play the game, but on the flip side, are probably the player's with the highest BB IQ ever to play the game. There is a reason Shaq called Duncan the Big Fundamental b/c he just does everything at a high level on both ends of the court.
Wasn't it Bogut this past season who praised Tim and said he could play in his 40's b/c his game wasn't based off his athleticism but his cerebral. Even other players know this about Tim.

Tim's athleticism has declined. That's the main difference between the current TD and the MVP, best player in the world Tim Duncan. Tim's even smarter now (on the court) than he was then and has learned to play differently, still, his athleticism is the main difference between now and then. He's always had the fundamentals, again, that's why he was the number 1 pick. I don't understand why you're telling me this. Most people here should already know all this.
Lol @ those saying Duncan wasn't athletic. He was one of the most athletic bigs in the league from 97-04.
He never had crazy jumping ability, but he had elite mobility and lateral quickness for a big man.

Who else in that draft was number 1 pick worthy? Keith Van Horn? lol
Is Kyle Anderson's family on this board or something? Duncan had good NBA athleticism and even after his injury possessed good mobility to compete in the NBA.
Kyle Anderson's athleticism was barely passable at the elite NCAA level. In the NBA, he would clearly be below average. If he was already called "slowmo" in college, things do not bode well. His super late release on his jumper can be fixed with hard work, but athleticism can't be taught.
i don't know who is less quick, Kyle Anderson or Sim Bhullar...
I honestly believe he would still be MVP Tim Duncan or close to it if not for his knees. Just think if he would have never had to have that surgery in 2000.
Duncan was not athletic? I don't recall seeing too many players in the 7 foot range that could handle the ball like a shooting guard and make people look like fools in the low post that were trying to guard them.
I don't think that surgery in 2000 was that big of a deal. I think his knees are just a result of the miles on the tires. The man has played a million games in the NBA
