    Since it started in 1999, the G20 “regularly sends clear messages against protectionism” at its meetings.

    Until now.

    Mnuchin pushed back hard on Trump’s hostility to trade, which was embodied in his “America First” policies.

    The result was a small but symbolic break with history:

    There's an almost prideful ignorance to a lot of this. Even the reference to "America First" ignores it's historical context.
